I like .45 ACP. I like 1911s. I also like high cap .45 ACP guns, which we're finally seeing more of. Today a person can choose between a wide body 1911, a USP, an HK45, an FNP, an XD45, a G21, an MP45, and probably others I'm neglecting. This is nothing more than a photo comparison between the FNP and USP. When all is said and done, I cannot choose a clear favorite between the two. The FNP wins on capacity (as well as magazine price). I like the FNP's trigger better in both SA and DA. I find the FNP magazine release to be more natural than the one found on the USP. However, the USP slide release is much more useful and easy to manipulate. The Safe/Fire/Decock function allows for Condition 1 carry, which the FNP does not. Finally, even with the FNP's interchangeable backstrap, the USP is more natural in my hand being slightly slimmer, although longer, in grip. The FNP has a more 1911ish grip angle, which I also appreciate.
Both handguns have large triggerguard openings that allow for use with gloved hands. While this is nice, it pushes attached lights out away from the trigger finger. I cannot operate a Surefire x200 on the FNP without adjusting my grip. However, compared to the non standard proprietary rail on the USP, I'd rather have the problem of short fingers. All in all, I find them both to be fine handguns. Both are large. Both are heavy fully loaded. Both would deliver a bad day to anyone opposing the wielder.      FNP Magwell  USP Magwell       |

I refuse to buy HKs but at some point I will buy the FNP 45.

The FNP45 USG is what finally made me buy a high cap .45, I almost bought a HK several times in the past.
Agree with all your points except I prefer the HK magazine release. Once you get used to using your trigger finger it is much faster. Excellent, useful post. |

Got a buddy who bought a double stack Springfield 1911. The first couple hundred rounds it was a jam-o-matic. I don't know if it ever straightened out or not. It just wouldn't feed right. Mag issues...I don't know.
I'm scared of double stacks because of that experience. I would like an HK though. Sexy pistola. |

I had a USP and sold it after I bought my XD. IMO the USP is meh. Too big (although I haven't handled the FN, the fact that it's even fatter than the HK is a turn off for me), too heavy, etc. My XD did everthing the USP did, and did it for less money, cheaper mags, and better ergos (for me). HK makes a fine firearm, but IMO the P7 series was their high point. I'm seriously looking at a M&P. However, none of the "hi-cap" .45's I've owned have measured up to my 1911's and were sold. |

I took a close look at the USP and a Sig S O A the other day. The S A O had not advantage over my 1911 at all. I saw no reason to spend such a large sum of money for a pistol that offered nothing over my current EDC pistol.
The HK USP .45 had a couple of features that I really liked and preferred greatly over my 1911. These being the mag release, double stack mags, night sights, and polymer frame. But when they brought out the $60 mags, the HK lost all of it's appeal. 10 mags = $666. That is silly. Plus, who wants to let $60 mags hit the concrete/gravel/ whatever while conducting training drills. My 1911 mags costs >$10 so I don't care if they get dinged ans scratched. |

the FN looks like a pretty decent gun. USP's fit my hands pretty well, and the FN looks pretty close to the USP.

Picking up an FNP-40 on Friday.
Looked the FNP-45 at Bass Pro over the weekend and it seems like a pretty damned nice gun. H&Ks are just too expensive for me. |

I hate HK and their snobby attitude, but i'd take an HK45 or HK USP over ANY handgun
1911 fanboys need to learn their weapon is almost a 100 year old design, and it has long since been surpassed. |

The HK45 is a nice gun but the stock Hk45 has a 10-round cap comparable to an M&P45.

I own both and like the heck outta them. Both will feed anything besides LSWC's. I'd say my USP is slightly better but it's the Tactical model and has some refinements over the base USP anyways.

No offense to anyone who owns the FNP45 as I'm sure that like all of FN's other products they're excellent firearms, but damn if that's not an ugly pistol.
I love and prefer my USP, but I would also trust a FN handgun. I just can't get past the looks on the 45, though.
