I am sooo out of date on how TV programs can be recorded and watched later. I have cable and wanted to get some kind of recorder for Christmas. What is out there/price/ease of use?

I'm no expert so I'll probably be flogged for this, but...

Call you cable company and ask about a DVR upgrade on your reciever.  I think I pay $5 a month more to Dish Network for mine.  

It's $5 well spent.
