12 Cosponsors signed on to Rep. McCarthy's bill on March 7:

Rep Ackerman, Gary L. [NY-5] - 3/7/2007
Rep Crowley, Joseph [NY-7] - 3/7/2007
Rep Fattah, Chaka [PA-2] - 3/7/2007
Rep Filner, Bob [CA-51] - 3/7/2007
Rep Frank, Barney [MA-4] - 3/7/2007
Rep Jackson-Lee, Sheila [TX-18] - 3/7/2007
Rep Maloney, Carolyn B. [NY-14] - 3/7/2007
Rep Meehan, Martin T. [MA-5] - 3/7/2007
Rep Moran, James P. [VA-8] - 3/7/2007
Rep Schakowsky, Janice D. [IL-9] - 3/7/2007
Rep Schiff, Adam B. [CA-29] - 3/7/2007
Rep Van Hollen, Chris [MD-8] - 3/7/2007

If these are your reps, you probably already know they are worthless but call them and give them an earful (if you belong to their district, otherwise you are wasting your breath).

Other than this, the bill is still going nowhere. It needs assignment to a Subcommittee before it can move anywhere and it has not been assigned one yet. This suggests that the Chairmain (John Conyers) may be keeping a lid on this bill for now... Overall, things are looking good right now, though it could easily go from nowhere to several steps down the Committee process in a day if the leadership got behind it.

Currently nothing on the Judiciary Committee schedule for it either, though they only update the schedule a few days in advance, so that doesn't mean much either.

Yeah but 2 weeks ago everyone said that the bill wouldn't get any co-sponsers because Democrats don't want to touch the gun issue.............

Damn, to go from 0 to 12 overnight is a cause for concern to me.

And why the fuck are Rep.'s from Pennsylvania, Virgina and, of all places, TEXAS co-sponsoring this bill?!?!?!  Since when did the libtards infiltrate those bastions of liberty!?!?!?

This bill now has little to nothing to stop it from making it all the way to Bush's desk, and he's already stated that he'll sign an AWB if it gets to him.  So you might want to reconsider your lazy mindset, things have changed in Congress as you apparently have missed.

Moran (aka Moron in VA) is the ONLY Democrat in the House of Reps from VA.  He's from the part the rest of us call "Arlingraad", which is just west of Washington DC and has been tainted from its proximity to the nation's capitol.  He's also well-known as a drunkard and wife-beater.

Is anybody really surprised by these cosponsors?

It's just the usual suspects.

When non-gun grabbers start sponsoring the bill, then I'll worry.

The only people worried are the ones who don't understand the legislative process.

Moran is a Liberal Dem who represents the 8th District, the Northern VA suburbs of D.C..  That area is a hotbed of Democratic liberalism.  Jim Webb won the senatorial election primarily due to his support from NORVA.

My guy, Randy Forbes, has already told me he will not support this.

Am I in a time warp?  Is this 1993 all over again?

Here's what is going to happen:

Bill will make it out of committee, perhaps with a few minor changes.

Dem lovers will say "Oh don't worry about it, it will never go anywhere further."

Bill will pass a floor vote.

Dem lovers will say "Oh don't worry about it, it will never go anywhere further."

A companion bill will be introduced in the Senate.

Dem lovers will say "Oh don't worry about it, it will never go anywhere further."

A final version of the bill will pass the senate.

Dem lovers will say "Oh don't worry about it, it will never go anywhere further."

Bush, as promised, will sign it.

Dem lovers will gleefully roll over and spread their cheeks as long as NASCAR and American Idol are broadcast on time.

This is the way the world ends.  Not with a bang but a whimper.

I started rattling cages when this first popped up a couple of weeks ago.  Get on the phone, Email, mail them, whatever it takes.  Get in their faces and let them know you oppose any new gun control.  It doesn't matter, if you think it will fall on deaf ears or not. DO NOT lay down and just take it.  Rattle their cages!  Join and Support a Right to Keep and Bear Arms organization (NRA, GOA, etc.).  Send them a Contribution to fight this crap.  There is no excuse not too.

On the one hand, things look good for us right now. If the Republicans were in control, I wouldn't even waste my time sharing the news. On the other hand, I remember the 1994 AWB - things can change REAL fast if the leadership decides they want something to move and the leadership in this case are all avowed gun grabbers - Conyers even sponsored this bill in 2005.

My feelings are that the only thing stopping this bill from moving forward is that Democrats don't want to lose a bunch of elections in 2008. If Democrats feel even for a second, that this is not the case, this bill will slide through the Committee process like a greased pig based on the historical voting records of the House leadership.

So my goal is to make sure that they feel the hot breath of gun owners on the back of their necks every second they are in control of the House. I want them to know that we are watching every single move, even at the Subcommittee level and that it WILL cost them elections if they try anything.

The so called 'Blue Dog Democrats' are key on this.

A lot has to do with what Pelosi wants.  If she wants this bill to pass she will tell the "pro-gun" democrats, that she helped elect, to obey her orders.
Link Posted: 3/8/2007 6:16:02 AM EDT
As for Sheila Jackson-Lee representing Texas, not hardly! She represents a district of halfwits in Houston and owes her continued reelection to the fact that her gerrymandered district protects her.

Notice that even though the Republicans had the opportunity to put her out on her ass when they redistricted Texas, they actually left her in a pretty strong position. Probably a wise move on their part since hardly a Congressional session goes by that she doesn't say something stupid that hurts the Dems.
Link Posted: 3/8/2007 6:17:18 AM EDT
That won't happen.

She needs the support of the 40 or so members of the 'Blue Dog Coalition' to help advance the Dem agenda.

Link Posted: 3/8/2007 6:18:29 AM EDT
Pelosi is from San Fransicko, a city that outright bans gun ownership, spitting on the Constitution.  Of course she'll advance the cause of gun banners.

I think the success/demise of this bill has more to do with what kind of frenzy the MSM can drum up.  That's when the sheep put down their remotes and make phone calls...scary.

I wonder if the Zumbo deal might actually help in this case. It caused such a shit storm that maybe Dems might think this is a battle not worth fighting. They really want the White House and would like a clear majority (2/3rds) in Congress. Now once that happens, all bets are off. I'm an FFL and I'm getting a bit annoyed by one of my disrtibuters that has been trying to dump new Bushy ARs by using this bill as a scare tactic. Below is what he sent me.

The picture that you see below is a newer Bushmaster that came out this year

Now I am out of stock on this (civilian gun) but I have the “LE-Marked” ones on hand and they will look identical except that the ones I have are marked “LE-only” on them.

If you are interested let me know ASAP {we don’t have a lot on hand}---Don’t forget---HR 1022(the new and meaner version of the crime bill is in the works)---so it is only a matter of time before you can no longer have any of these type Bushmasters.

I emailed him back and told him that he may want to reconsider his sales tactics. Anyway, just musing about whether we scared anybody with operation Zumbo Drop.

You mean like the panic pieces recently written by ZUMBO, USA Today, and the Broward Sun Sentinel on the evils of guns?  The fix is in on this, folks.  The NRA is coy about acting on this threat, they'll wake up to this bill but they're holding off until it's too late so they can have deniability and not lose half their membership for having tacitly supported gun control.

And we've already heard that Pelosi and the other party leadership are lining up the freshmen because they DO NOT want a defection on this issue. Also, the fact that this bill has stayed in the Judiciary Committee and has not been referred to the sub-committee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security shows that John Conyers intends to hold hearings on this bill.

I think we're going to find out just how pro-gun these "Blue Dogs" are.

We did it once before and we will do it again if you continue this anti-gun nonsense.

Yes you can be thrown out of office like the democrats were in 1994. All you have to do to ensure a repeat of 1994 is support H.R. 1022 or any other Bill like it. The choice is yours.

Remember 1994. The sequel is coming to a Congressional District  near you.

If it's a House Bill and it's still in the House then it hasn't gone to the Senate.

Once it reaches the Senate the bill again goes to Committee.  The Judiciary Committee will read the Bill.  Orrin Hatch in on the Committee, head of the committee too I think.  Read his response to Medicman, he won't like that broad of wording in the bill.

While I'm inclined to agree with you (a politician is a politician) Tanner wouldn't stand a chance at re-election.  His constituency in rural West TN love their firearms.  He is, after all, a career politician who values another term above anything else.  Not to mention, if he were to vote in favor of this bill, I would make it my mission to air out his dirty laundry.  It would cost me my job, but I'm not married to it anyway.
