My wife just called from the stadium. She supervises one of the University sky boxes and said there was a tremendous blast and they wont let anyone have access to thier cars parked in the area of the bomb. It was apparently a suicide bomber who prematurely triggered the bomb. It was just before halftime with 80,000 people in the stands. My guess is an OU student frome a Muslim country. I am so angry I am shaking.

Explosion Kills One at University of Oklahoma
Saturday, October 01, 2005

NORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma (search) police investigating a loud boom found one person dead outside a campus building and believe an explosive device was involved.

"It was an explosive device with one fatality," said Sgt. Gary Robinson of the OU police department.

Robinson didn't know the identity or sex of the person who was found dead outside the Botany-Microbiology building. He also didn't know if there were other injuries or if the building was occupied.

Law enforcement officers cordoned off an area west of a packed Oklahoma Memorial Stadium (search), where the Oklahoma Sooners were playing Kansas State (search). Spectators reported hearing a loud boom just before the end of the first half, but no smoke or fire was seen.

Officers were not allowing anyone to exit the stadium, but Robinson said the spectators were safe.

Additional details weren't immediately available.

Probably some dumbass drunk college kid made a homemade "firework" type bomb to make a little noise and the fuse burnt faster than he thought it would. That's my guess anyway, I am probably wrong.

I would agree with you on this. Maybe a distraught college kid upset about his girlfriend porking a frat guy or something.

The loud noise of the explosion could be heard inside Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where 84,000 people were watching the Oklahoma Sooners play Kansas State (search).

Officers cordoned off an area west the stadium after the explosion and nobody was allowed out of the stadium immediately after the blast, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m., about halftime of the game. People were allowed out about 30 minutes later.

About 9 p.m. a police bomb squad detonated explosives found at the site of the blast.Jaclyn Hull, an OU freshman, said she was leaving the game shortly before the explosion.

"We saw a little bit of smoke, about as much as you would see coming up from a grill," she said.

That doesn't make sense. One bomb went off and more were found at the site that hadn't gone off?

Seems like some people are jumping to the failed suicide bomber theory with little info to go on.  What makes anyone think it was a suicide bomber?  It might have been a booby-trap intended to kill the driver of the car, for all we know.

Maybe there's more info out there, but it's just not being reported in the media outlets I've checked out.

University president is calling it a suicide.

I'm sure when we discover his name was Mohammed Abdul-azizz Al-Husseini, and he was an exchange student from Yemen, they will still be calling it a suicide.

Just got home from the game. Blast was audible over the band playing and I was on the opposite side of the stadium. I'm hearing one device was suicide, another was found and detonated by bomb squad. I didn't hear a second explosion so I cant confirm the second device.

I live only 1.5 blocks from the stadium so the AR is locked and loaded...
