DUGWAY –– The U.S. Army's Dugway Proving Ground has been placed on lockdown as part of "an ongoing security operation," according to spokeswoman Paula Nicholson.

The gates to the facility were closed Wednesday evening, and workers normally scheduled to be off at 5:30 p.m. were not allowed to leave, while those coming into the area were not let in.
Dugway encompasses more than 800,000 acres of Utah's west desert, where more than 2,000 people call home. It is a government-owned facility used by U.S. Army Reserves and U.S. National Guard for maneuver training. It is also a U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command center where tests are occasionally run on defenses against biological and chemical weaponry.

Didn't "something" get out of there and kill a bunch of sheep a few years back?

Is the lockdown over? Anybody got any info?

Some private probably lost a pair of NVGs, or some LT lost his pistol or ANCD.

Sounds like someone might have lost a weapon or other sensitive piece of gear like night vision. Dugway does some things that should not be talked about.

The local news there started with this as the lead story at 10 PM MT. Lockdown was first reported at 8PM and had been going on since at least 5:30, when they wouldn't let the day shift leave.

How long does it take to find some lost NV goggles?

At Yakima, the post was basically shutdown because some unit in some mechanized battalion lost NVG's. They ended up locking down the entire battalion inside those old piece of shit/fire trap barracks buildings for 3 months also surrounded by 3 strands of Concertina wire.

The lockdown ended when one of our EOD team leaders saw a set of NVG's laying on the ground on one of the largest ranges. So he stops by the locked unit and asks to talk to the Commander so he can read off the serial # off to him. Let me tell you we could hear cheers from our EOD shop, a certain LT and a Commander were extremely relieved. They donated a case each of Beer to our unit.

Anyone who has been to Yakima realizes what a needle in a haystack of finding a small item on a range is.

Why the fuck do 2K people live on a test center and reserve component base?

As far as lockdowns go––-yeah, it can take awhile to find shit sometimes.

The Dugway sheep incident, also known as the Skull Valley sheep kill, was a 1968 sheep kill that has been connected to United States Army chemical and biological warfare programs at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah. Six thousand sheep were killed on ranches near the base, and the popular explanation blamed Army testing of chemical weapons for the incident, though alternative explanations have been offered. A report, commissioned by Air Force Press Officer Jesse Stay first made public in 1998 was called the "first documented admission" from the Army that a nerve agent killed the sheep at Skull Valley.

I used to work with an ex-Army officer that got roped into being part of the Public Relations sacrificial lamb on that deal. Or, a Flak Catcher.

I found out this part of his history while talking over a recent company-wide testing program that we went through. Everyone in the company went through a personality testing program that had 16 possible pairings of characteristics. Out of about a hundred people we were the only two that tested out "Analytical-Analytical" for our mindset, personality, behavior, whatever.

We had both had lots of experience as Flak Catcher - "fuck, I don't know what this is, let Flak Catcher explain this shit to them....".
