Whew, clicking on the thread I thought it would be about Jimmy.

Thank goodness it wasn't.
Link Posted: 11/23/2010 5:37:30 AM EST
That's about as cool as it gets!
Link Posted: 11/23/2010 5:37:40 AM EST
Great write-up. I need to do this for my daughter.
Link Posted: 11/23/2010 5:38:04 AM EST
Good job, sir.

And you're right.  They don't make rifles that good anymore.  I've been bitten by the C&R bug for this very reason.  Modern bolt action rifles are pretty good, but they just do not compare to an old Mauser.

Nephew's name Carter.

Carter has his first rifle at 1.

Great job as always O_P! That little guy is gonna love it when he finally gets old enough to shoot it!

O_P, is your family adopting?

Very well done!

O_P, you're an animal.

God bless you, sir!

The note idea was brilliant!

O_P, you're an unfortunately rare example of a fine gentleman.

Any reason you don't favor steaming dents?
Link Posted: 11/23/2010 5:48:35 AM EST
This is awesome! I've always liked going into pawn shops to see what I can find...

The coolest thing is the note under the buttpad.

Make sure someone knows its there.

Very awesome of you to do this for him!

Link Posted: 11/23/2010 6:04:09 AM EST
You're a damned fine man Don.

I also loved the idea of the note in the buttstock. I might add one of those pics that show him with the gun. That would be cool to have in there.

OP,

you are an example of what every son, grandson, nephew, would want for a mentor. The people that know you as family are blessed.

Bravo OP
He is going to cherish that rifle for a life time and ya'll are going to create some wonderful memories with it
