All of the above is mostly correct. I sent money (no mention that the check was not acceptable) and parts for a genuine eotech. If you will look at the original for sale ad, nowhere is it stated that the item is not in it's original mount or that SUBSTANDARD screws have been used. When I received it I was concerned because it differed greatly in quality from my Aimpoint. Having never owned an eotech magnifier and being concerned by the fact that something looked a little "off" I contacted eotech with pictures. They informed me that the quickest way to spot a fake mount was to look for Phillips screws, WHICH THIS HAS! Eotech further informed me that based on the pictures they were fairly certain that at least the mount is fake and by association probably the whole thing, however, they are unable to be certain and would have to see it. Again, no mention of this in the ad.
Now heres where it gets interesting. I informed him of all of this...straight from eotech. I did ask for ALL my money and parts back, including shipping. He has my money, my parts and I have what eotech is telling me is probably worth $70. He got mad and said no way is he paying for the shipping costs. I wrote back appologizing for jumping to conclusions but reiterating that this is based on what EOtech is telling me. I offered to send the eotech in at my cost. If it is legit I keep it and no harm no foul - I leave positive feedback. But if it turns out to be a fake I want ALL my money and costs refunded. I wanted him to agree via pm so that there would be record of it in the event that there is a problem. I did not intend to besmirch his name until absolutely certain. He never responded to that message. The next I heard was from the moderators.
Again...the interesting part is that he has my parts AND payment. I have what all indications say may be a counterfeit and he is talking about contacting the authorities?! What will he say? That I bought something that the manufacturer has indicated may be fake and he has my parts and money and now he is concerned that...hmmm, my imagination trails off here because he seems to be holding all the cards. I am perfectly willing to send it to eotech on my dime but if its a fraud, I will want ALL my money back. I have 100% positive feedback on EVERY site I am on (m4carbine, ingunowners, eBay) and I have been a lurking member here for several years...definitely not new to any of these forums.
I was willing to keep this between us until confirmed but I don't think I should be out the cost of shipping the parts and shipping the eotech back if it turns out that he is a huckster trying to pawn off crap on the "new guy". In case it's not clear I am a little irritated that the guy who is currently the only member of this deal who DEFINITELY has all that we agreed to is the one talking about contacting authorities.
Simply stating ALL of the details in the ad may have avoided this. In case you haven't noticed there is a ship full of counterfeits floating around and I am not excited about being the victim of fraud. I use my equipment hard and while this optic is only for a training weapon, it could be called on to perform in an emergency and I paid a fair price for a used LEGIT optic that had been lingering destitute in the sale ads.
