** Back up for sale, I am home for about a week for Christmas**
Took this in trade and will never use it since I have a Marlin that fits my needs a little better. Figured some one here in Washington wouldnt mind having it. I have taken the rifle to 3 different people that deal with these older guns and all 3 basically told me the same thing as far as value ( my asking is a avg of all 3) so I feel comfortable with my asking price
What I know about the rifle is that according to the serial number ( 36***)it was made in 1890. Upper tang matches that year range for markings. The rifle has been re barreled in 45-70, as it does not have the winchester proof marks on barrel, but I have seen other 1886's with the same 45-70 barrel and same style of 45-70 markings. One of the guys that I took it to said he had a "feeling" it was probably a factory authorized re barrel....what ever that means. The gun has also been re blued and the stocks refinished.
I have not shot it and dont really plan to which is why its here on the chopping block. Over all condition is pretty nice, but of course there are some flaws in the wood and the receiver does have some older light pitting that did not get taken care of before the re blue. Action seems nice a tight.
