Helmet is withdrawn from sale. I think I will keep it now. Here is the reply I got and my reply:
but the inside of the helmet you have has that run of green staked around the inner liner. the one in the picture doesn't.
not trying to say it is a fake, but I'd look into it some more for sure.
either way, good luck with your sale.
the pic from the book
Anyone who collects german militaria will be familiar with the countless variants on every piece of equipment in the German Army from uniforms, daggers, belts, boots, medals and yes even helmets. I have seen plenty of different helmet liners and even helmet patterns and it does not mean that they are replicas or fake. There were different manufacturers, as well as private manufactures who built equipment. Even so-called standard tunics show an incredible number of variations. Not only were there variations by manufacturer but also changes were made from time to time for a variety of reasons. just because the liner is slightly different does not make the helmet a fake. Even assuming that this helmet was a fake, which I am not conivinced it is, it is definitely NOT poor quality. It was sold to me as authentic by a reputable dealer and three other collectors have seen it and they all think it's real. Besides, although there are replicas of many german items, i have never heard of this type of helmet being replicated. If you have proof that the item is a fake please send it to me first. It is rude to shit on my post without even letting me know.It would have been the kind thing to do to e-mail me and say "you know, I think your helmet is not the real deal for this and that reason".
On the stack of green that my helmet has and the one in the book does not, that does not really mean much. Do you know when the helmet in the pic was produced? Do you know when mine was produced? has it occured to you that German quality was realy good early in the war and that things were "simplified" as the ware wore on and raw materials were scace? By the way check out this web page for another helmet like mine and tell me if it is fake too. Check out the price as well.www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/photos/H00354.html
You say it is not personal...YES it IS personal, I am not out there trying to rip-off anyone, but when you go into my post and call my item nothing but a poor reproduction without any proof or explanation you are calling me a liar and I do no appreciate that. If you have evidence of it being a fake please send it my way and I will look into it otherwise please keep that kind of comment to yourself.
Oh, one more thing now that I know how much they are asking for this helmet, I think I will keep it along with my "Fake" Afrika Korps officer belt and belt buckle, they make a nice set.
