I have a very original Model 1884 Springfield Trapdoor made in 1888. It has an 1873 marked breech block with a clean bolt face. Nice markings, and is in overall good shape. All metal parts are in good shape with some pitting and a nice dark patina. What looks like evidence of original case hardening on the bottom of the breech block and tang. Original buffington rear sight slides smoothly. The stock is a nice reddish walnut with no cracks or evidence of sanding, the wood is proud of the metal everywhere. The bore is shiny with strong rifling with some frosting close to the muzzle. The previous owner fired the rifle several times and said it was a fine shooter. The reason I consider it a project is because it is missing the extractor and its spring, the spring for the thumb piece, and the cleaning rod. All of the original parts can be found easily and are not too terribly expensive. I havent done anything with the rifle except wipe everything down with turpentine and give everything a coat of howards feed-n-wax. I planned to keep it as a future project but want some cash to put into other things. With some more cleaning and the replacement parts it will make a fine shooter. $400 plus shipping to your door since it is an antique. Feel free to make me an offer or trade through PM, im more interested in selling but you never know.
