I am thinning the herd a bit.

1. Savage model 99, 24 inch barrel, 300 savage, walnut stock, schnabel forearm, pistol grip, steel buttplate, receiver not drilled, wood is not modified, blueing is 80%, stock does have a small crack in behind the tang, serial number is 68x,xxx, I believe this places date of manufacture in 1954, has cartridge counter and excellent bore, full case color on lever. All in all an unmodified, but good honest rifle that has been used but not abused, $400 shipped

FWIW,
If you look at the bottom of the lever action hinge point (where the screw goes in), there is a letter stamp (i.e. A, B, C, or D, etc...). I believe there is a cricle around it.

Starting at 1949, each letter denotes which year it was made. So if you see a "D", the rifle was manufactured in 1952.

By chance, is this a takedown model?
