The following info on this rifle was given to me by Michael Coughlin
at Southern Gunworks last year. Most everyone should be familiar with
this shop and their long time expertise on military & collectable firearms.
Stock has Pederson cut out; clear "AOP" Inspector cartouche; also "GAW"
cartouche indicating an Inspector who worked at Springfield from 1929 to 1932,
and again from 1941 to 1945. That fact alone makes this rifle unique.
The rifle was rebuilt in 1944 and has a beautiful 4 groove bore and it stayed in
government storage until I got my hot hands on it in March 2001 when I purchased
it from The Armory (and of course you all know them too!).
Michael valued this rifle at $875.00 last year. Just last month I saw a Pederson cut
out stock which had been RESANDED & REFINISHED sell for $455.00 on eBay!!!
This rifle has been shot by me not even 20 times, and maybe 20 times by some
friends. I bought it because I have an addiction to guns I like. I just can't help
myself, even though I already had a 1903.
Oh, Michael Coughlin also told me there's a Springfield Research Service online
but I've never tried to look this up.
I also have a slew of WW II ammo, recent ammo, Springfield & Garand ammo belts,
along with other military junk we can dicker on, if you're interested.
Email or IM me for pictures and any other details you may desire.
Also, I will consider shipping this through a FFL if someone in another state really
wants it and it isn't too much of a hassle, but I'd rather do a Face To Face in Virginia.
Oh, and one last thing: If any of you want a reference on this rifle, ask my pal
highwayman about it. I think he's even shot this unit.
GIVE ME $825.00 AND MEET ME HALFWAY IN VIRGINIA!!
