I have a rare bird here, this is a factory Ruger wood hand guard for the 182 and later series of rifles. underneath it the hand guard has a built in sheet metal clamp that clamps around the barrel, basically snapping on. It is finished and stained the same color as the basic Mini-14 but nothing in the world is going to be the same color. I ran across 2 and decided to buy a wood stock for my Mini-14 GB so I called numrich and ordered one. When it arrived I installed it along with this hand guards twin and I was very surprised how close they matched as my stock came off a recently made SS ranch model and these wood hand guards were made in the early 80's is my understanding. Going to gun shows every weekend for the last 10 years has never produced one of these and I have been looking for one for my GB folder. It is my understanding that these were made for the AC-556 and never really put on civilian guns. We also know that Ruger doesn't make these hand guard anymore nor do they sell parts to the public so there isn't going to be a bunch of these hitting the market, ever. It is in okay shape and could benefit from some Pledge furniture polish or something. I was told these came of LEO/Gov't AC-556's being destroyed and someone was allowed to keep a few. Given that these were on Gov't guns there are going to be dings and nicks here and there. There aren't any huge gouges or anything bu honest wear and tear. Where the rear hand guard meets the receiver there is a small section of the gloss that almost looks like it chipped off and there are a few dings about 1/8" long that do NOT go past the varnish and lacquer so the color remains. If you sanded or steel wooled the finish and put a fresh coat of lacquer it would probably look new or you could sand down and refinish.
