I hate to sell some of the knives that I'll be listing over the next few days, but times are tough, and I have a few really, really large obligations to settle.
This is really the coolest knife I own. I've had it for about 10 years, and am the third owner. I bought it from an old boy that spent most of his retirement years at the VFW. He owned it for about 40 years.
Now, I need to preface this with the idea that while this knife was owned by servicemen during times of war, it really wasn't a combat knife. It was not ever used in war.
The fellow I bought it from told me he bought it from a Army Officer, specifically a Major who was a doctor. The doctor said he bought it in 1947. I think the doctor might have been wrong, or the second owner didn't remember correctly, as I think this knife is about 5-7 years newer than 1947, but like all things Randall, there really are no definative answers.
The one thing for sure, the pictures are an accurate descriptor of what it is. Heiser sheath, correct and original stone, and elephant ivory handle. The handle shows a few checks as expected, but it's stable and none of the checks have grown in the decade I've owned it.
My apologies, but I can't afford to take any trades at this point. Moreso, unless you're a fairly advanced collector, I'm sure that this isn't the knife for you, as I'm pricing it at $6500. If you're concerned about the knife being anything other than what it is, please be assured that I had it on display at the 2007 Oregon Knife Show. There, every big name collector looked it over with envy, and Rhett even tried to steal it from me (typical, I know!)
