I have a Detonics Combat Master that the original frame cracked in the early 90's. I had a local smith replace the frame with a Para P12 frame and the firearm has never cycled consistently since. it's been sitting in the back of the safe for years, but now I am in a better position to have it looked at. I am looking for recommendations for a smith that really knows what they are doing with a handgun such as this.
I am in SW Tennessee and will travel a reasonable distance or will consider shipping properly.

There's two gunsmiths in Mid TN that I can suggest.

Franklin Gun Shop in (duh) Franklin. He's been in the business for 30ish years. Not sure where his 1911 level is though, to be honest.

Jeff Walle (pronounced "Wally") is at Guns & Leather, in Greenbriar. He works Thu-Sat. He's certainly qualified for 1911 work as he's a past champion shooter in USPSA, Bulls-Eye & lord knows what else. He used a 1911 in all those (or a 2011, to be precise). He's been a gun smith for around 40 years now & has done work for me personally.

There'll be some more suggestions coming along from others as well, I'm sure. I would try to get them on the phone first, see what they have to say before you make a drive somewhere, IMO.

You may want to reach out to Mike Hadley at Olympic Arms....I know Olympic doesn't scream high end 1911's but Mike was partnered with Richard Niemer (who has passed away) who was one of the OG's of Detonics back in the day in Issaquah.  Mike is a straight shooter and will be honest.....pretty sure he can still be reached at Olympic Arms.  Detonics are awesome guns...take care of it!

It is getting to be really hard to find someone to work on 1911s...like really work on them, not just cutting holes in slides and swapping drop in parts like glock guys consider to be gunsmithing

A while back I e-mailed EGW since I heard they would do weld work.  They discontinued custom services but recommended Jim at Innovative Custom Guns, so I wrote him.  Super nice guy, friendly and knowledgeable.  He welded a Novac sight cut and installed a wilson adjustable, welded a grip radius and fit an ed brown grip safety, installed a kart barrel just to name a few of things I ordered on a Springfield operator.  Absolutely cannot tell it was welded or recut.

I had picked up the operator dirt cheap as it had been badly abused and had planned to do the same by running it hard at courses.
It is now the jewel of my collection...accuracy, fit and looks beats out Springfield custom shop, Wilson and an original Caspian frame delta 1911.  It now resides in a special box and designated to be the only pistol I grab if I can only take one...its a work of art.  He did the work about 2 years ago.

Unfortunately now I need to find another beater..like seriously, his work is so good it is making me buy another pistol to trash at courses.

He has experience working on hi-cap.  I have no doubt he will do you right.  He isn't the fastest or cheapest but you get more than you pay for.  I am about to contact him fot a MEUSOC build.
