IR Hunter MK 1, 320x240, 2-8x magnification (2 power with a 2x & 4x digital magnification setting).
SUMMARY OF MY USE & OWNERSHIP
I bought this new in October of 2014 from Tyler at Ultimate Night Vision.
It has been babied, and used as a handheld for the majority of its use, and on a rifle for two range sessions, basically just zeroing & shooting warm water bottles at 100 yards for fun.
I estimate the total usage at under 25 hours, and probably way less.
I'm selling to upgrade in the IR Hunter line, probably to the MK II, but maybe to the Patrol, when they are released.
The glass appears flawless. I just used lens tissue to clean it for the first time. The housing is also flawless, other than a couple of marks on the battery compartment that appear to me to be on top of the anodizing.
(1) In my opinion, the base magnification is not quite 2x. I have no way to verify, but it doesn't seem to be 2x (which is a good thing, IMO). Using as a handheld, looking at things a few feet away is not problematic.
(2) Software "glitch"- In my experience, the only problem I've had, is only a problem because the reticle settings include the "clip on" mode as a reticle setting. In other words, when you are switching among reticle settings (there are 3 visible reticles plus the "clip on" mode) you can also scroll to and through the "clip-on" setting. The problem is that if you switch from Visual Reticle 1 up the menu to "Clip-On" mode and back to a Visual Reticle.
The three different reticle shapes are in a menu that you access, like all the other menus, by turning the left turret. Once in this menu, you can turn the top turret to select the reticle color (all of this is fine). You can then turn the right turret to switch between reticles. The first selection is "Clip On" mode, and then thee are three reticles. If you were intending to switch "down" from the first reticle to the 2nd reticle, but instead switch up to the "clip on" mode (which has no reticle), when you switch back down to the reticles, two things could happen:
(1) the first or second reticle could disappear
(2) the reticles could appear , but be "zoomed out" and reading the data at the bottom right corner, I see that it is trying to show me 1x, rather than the base 2x. To state that a different way, the image does not magnify or de-magnify, but the reticle, which operates like a 1st focal plane reticle, gets smaller. Since the magnification has not changed, the mils are closer together than they should be, and you're not getting correct info. It's pretty obvious when this happens.
Both of these are not "features" and are problems. However, the solution, which always works, is to back out of the reticles menu by turning the left turret, cycle up to the 1st menu, which has ZOOM LEVEL as the variable that is adjustable by using the right turret, and change the magnification. If you were in 1x zoom (scope has a base magnification of 2x), you would cycle to 2x or 4x, then back to 1x, then using the right hand turret, cycle back down to the reticle menu, at which point, the reticles all work as they should. The solution which took this paragraph to explain, is accomplished in less than 2 seconds. It is only a problem when you accidentally roll into "clip on" mode, and not when switching among the visible reticles. In actual use, you're going to pick a reticle, switch out of that menu, and switch back to the 1st menu, where you have your contrast, & black hot or white hot selection & zoom selection, before you start to pick up any targets.
