I sold a 9mm Colt lower receiver a month ago , I was contacted on Monday of this week by the purchaser informing me the receiver was cracked. I had noticed an area on the front of the receiver that the finish was missing and looked for a crack and saw nothing, I also had a gunsmith and several friends look at it prior to selling it. I had taken pic's of the complete receiver, including the front where he says there is now a crack.
What do I do?
I have sent him the following E-Mail and am I waiting for his response.
After reviewing our E-Mails I saw it had been a month since I shipped the lower, I wish you would have contacted me within the first week after you received it.
I am not a dealer, just an individual selling a few items from time to time and therefore I don't have a reserve of cash on hand.
I need you to take a picture of the front of the lower and include the pictures I sent to you for me for my records and to review.
I have talked to everyone here that had looked at the lower and we didn't see a visable crack in that location.
I have also contacted Colt about the issue and they have advised that the lower be returned to them for their inspection. The customer service number for them is 1-800-241-2485. At this point it would be best for you to return it to them since it has been transferred to you , you can ship it directly to Colt due to it being a service / repair.
Am I out of line on this, I don't have a clue what could have happened to this after receipt, was a mag block inserted and over tightened or was there defect from Colt.
