There are nearly 500 responses in this thread, mourning the sudden demise of a well-liked, much-respected member of the board, Calvert1.
This news hit hard for many members, and many of us said goodbye and paid tribute to this man.
There's only one problem, folks, and it's become an open secret in the past few days. The problem is, folks, that Calvert1 did not die.
Calvert1 did not succumb to pancreatic cancer. Calvert1 is not a veteran of current or past military conflicts. Calvert1 is not, nor has he ever been, employed by or contracted by Blackwater.
The last Sandbox he was in was likely in Kindergarten.
Calvert1 is alive and well and working as a Service Systems Analyst, where he has been employed since 2001. Per information verified with his employer, Calvert1 has taken no leaves of absence in his entire period of employment. He works out of his home in Dallas, Texas.
DMV records show that Calvert1 had no Porsche registered in his name, nor stolen from his possession.
Calvert1's wife is not an FBI agent, if he has a wife at all. This information is a matter of public record and was confirmed by calling the FBI.
In short, gentlemen and ladies, virtually everything Calvert1 represented himself to be was a lie, plain and simple.
When this was first brought to me by forum member hqsntr, I thought he had gone off his nut. However, over the period of a few days, and due to hqsntr's superb investigative work, I came to realize this was true.
I could not understand the motivation for such a stunt, especially in light of the fact that it impacted many members here.
I believe part of the motivation, we'll never know, nor will normal, rational human beings be able to understand.
Part of the reason for killing off this character, this fabrication of Cavert1's, was that he, as one member said to me, was beginning to have trouble holding all the lies together.
Living a lie, even in this virtual world, requires the expenditure of a tremendous amount of energy. So much of which to keep track. Lie upon lie upon lie. Eventually, it becomes to much, and so the persona gets killed off.
And there is another reason, more common in the world. Theft. Mr. Calvert agreed to transfer a rifle karma'd by mt goodrich, of which SpaceEngineer was the winner.
Calvert1 claimed to have a C&R license and agreed to transfer the rifle. The rifle was placed into his hands, along with $25. The rifle, gentlemen and ladies, was never transferred. When Calvert1 disappeared from the board after he got the rifle, members, after a while, began questioning his whereabouts.
That's when uxb contacted him and Calvert1 revealed the tragic news. He "died" shortly thereafter.
Theft, folks. Calvert1 killed off his elaborately-woven online persona for a $75 rifle and a handful of greenbacks.
Now, I want those of you who are trying to absorb what I'm telling you understand something. I did not proceed with this until I was absolutely certain. Needless to say, approaching a man's supposedly grieving family to accuse their supposedly dead loved one with such accusations is, to put it mildly, a delicate subject.
Well, there's no doubt of it. hqsntr and another investigator called Calvert1's place of employment and asked to speak with him. They were transferred to his extension and he answered the phone "This is Butch".
There's so much more I could say about this, so many details I've left out, but trust me, there's no doubt that we've been conned by a pathological liar. And Calvert1 has been back on the board, posting as "Christon". I suppose he's been tiped about all this, because he's deleted all his posts, changed the public email address he had displayed, and has entered a biogus name and location in his profile. Also, I've been informed that, miracle of miracles, the rifle has been found by Calvert's 'Brother in Law", and it's now being shipped to Space Engineer. Nice way to skirt being charged with a Felony, Butch.
I cannot take credit for discovering this. hqsntr discovered this, along with others who discovered it themselves, independently. I apreciate the patience and restraint shown by all those who honored my directive to refrain from posting anything about this in the open forum until I had a chance to see for myself.
I want to say a few things directly to a few people here:
hqstnr, I apologize for doubting you on this. While I have always prided myself as being the big, bad troll hunter in the forum, I missed this, and you nailed it. Excellent investigative work. Top notch.
uxb, I know that you had nothing to do with this. I think it would be natural for you to be concerned that there might be suspicions that you were somehow complicit, since you broke this news. I am certain you are faultless and were taken in just as were the rest of us.
mt goodrich and SpaceEngineer, I am sorry you guys were jerked around like this. This was completely unnecessary, and even if the rifle does arrive, I want to say to you that yu have every right to be pissed off about this.
Centuryhouse, I understand that you went to school with Calvert and once considered him a friend. I think, of all the people involved in this ridiculous matter, that you must feel the deepest sense of betrayal. For what it's worth to you, I want you to know that I know that that kind of betrayal hurts. You seem like a really good guy. You have friends in this forum, and they are not like the cardboard cutout that was Butch Calvert.
S.O. Interceptor, you were placed in a very difficult position with having to deal with finding out about this after having gone through the trouble and putting together a Memorial Event for this liar. That must have been tough, and I thank you for your efforts that were backed by the best of intentions.
To Orion and all the other sleuths who I hear independently figured all this out on their own, good job. I'm impressed, truly.
To the members of this forum who mourned the loss of this...man, to those who paid tribute, if you're somehow embarassed in any way, don't be, it's not your fault. If you're indignant or even outright angry about being conned like this, and by being duped into believing that a member of our little family here had died, painfuly, at a too-young age, then I am with you.
To anyone who wishes to do so, please feel free to post your comments on this, whatever you wish to say. I have some things to say about this episode reinforcing the need for veracity in the forum, but those comments are for another thread.

I'm just glad we all know whom he is & what a nut-job he is, as I've seen him selling stuff all over the net over the past years, but never did any business with him. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones & glad you guys banned him after this.
