As with every collector I think there comes a time when you realize you can’t own everything or own it forever… and I think I’m about there. For a while now I’ve had more guns than I could ever realistically shoot or use and I’ve been contemplating selling off some of the pieces that I don’t truly need and this gun below is one of them.
Swenson and his guns have been a hobby of mine for the last several years and over the course of those years I have been fortunate to own and examine some very nice examples of his guns. The gun shown here was third in the series of Swenson guns I bought and it’s a rare one to say the least.
The gun is built on a 1968 “C” stamped Commercial Colt, not much different from all the other Gov’t Models Colt produced that year except that this one is topped off with an AMU slide… rare by itself, the fact that Swenson did a conversion on it probably adds just a bit
The gun has many of Armand’s signature touches and a few that weren’t always seen. The squared and checkered trigger guard, checkered front strap, barrel positioner, beveled mag-well, lowered ejection port, silver soldered ramped front sight, etc. are all standard fare Swenson touches but one of the many things that makes this gun different is the Micro adjustable rear sight. Additionally this is an early Swenson gun and features a hand made extended thumb safety, which would help to date the gun to about 1971.
The gun is correctly marked on both the frame and slide “A.D. SWENSON GARDENA, CALIF” and the frame is also stamped with a “B” indicating the first initial of the owner’s last name, a trait common to Swenson guns. SOLD... thank you sir!
