Patrick Gobbi contacted me on November 25 requesting to contact me in regards to a Savage 110FP 30'06 that I had listed in the equipment exchange. During that phone call he offered to purchase the Savage for $375 shipped. This was lower than my asking price and I advised him I would think about the offer and return the call. Several days later I returned his call to accept the offer. At that time he said he would like to add a Burris Fullfield 3x10x50 to the deal for $500 shipped, but stated that he would be unable to send the funds until December 10th. We both agreed at this time that he would purchase the weapon with the scope, sending the funds and a signed FFL on December 10th. I offered to mount and boresight the scope for him. This required that I purchase a set of Redfield Standard High Rings(as I had none on hand to accomodate the massive 50mm objective lensed scope). This set me back approximately $25.00. On the 10th I emailed and called him several times, finally recieving an email response from him on December 13th. In this email he advised that he would be sending the funds on Monday December 15th. December 15th has come and gone. Numerous calls to his residence and emails have been unanswered. I was able to sell the weapon with the scope to a close friend for $400 (a loss I don't mind taking when a friend is involved). My only concern is that the loss could be larger the next time Mr. Gobbi decides not to keep his word and I want the members of the board to be aware of dishonesty, irregardless of the level of dishonesty portrayed. It is my belief that an individual who portrays any level of dishonesty has the ability to portray a magnified level of dishonesty in the future. My only intention is to make the members of this board aware of what I believe to be Mr. Gobbi's potential to be dishonest at any level on any future deals that he may partake in. I only lost $25.00 to Mr. Gobbi. I believe that it is important that I take advantage of this instance where dishonesty was detected for a mere $25.00 so that it doesn't cost one of you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in a future dealing with Mr. Gobbi. Lord knows $25.00 is a very inexpensive cost to detect a trait such as dishonesty on a board like this where many things are priced in the hundreds or even thousands of dollars. So, please head my warning, and realize that I do not like posting words like these that I have posted. But, I believe that it is my responsibility, as a member of this board, and as a member of the gun community to make my brothers in arms aware of such behavior as that which Mr. Gobbi has portrayed so that it doesn't end up costing one of you more, much more than it has cost me.
Sincerely, Ed Pratt
