Without spending $1500, what's the best entry point to see if a CZ will work for me? I tried the Glock and M&P. I grew up with a 1911, but STI  is cost prohibitive. Looking at the P-09 and Shadow. Your  thoughts much appreciated.

The (EAA imported) Tanfoglio elite match may be worth a shot.  Very much in feel like a 2011.  Dawson fiber front sight and Taylor freelance extensions and your ready to shoot.  Factory trigger is adjustable for pretravel and reset and nice out of the box.  Mine was in the $500 range put prices have been going up over the last year.   On the holsters the Sig SP2022 ones generally work and your have to experiment with mag pouches.

You could try the 75 SA. Do a trigger job, maybe better sights

This is pretty nice too, but pricey.

Why not the P09?  $450,19 round mags, polymer goodness.  I don't own one... but own a SP01, $850 from CZ Custom.

I use a P09 with their spring kits from the custom shop. 24+1 9mm. I can shoot a course without reloading.

grabagun had the 40 cal P-09 on sale for $380 a while back.

I dropped in the Cajun GunWorks trigger kit, and it turned out really nice.

really nice.

I like the gun, it feels a lot like my 1911/2011 guns.

I like it so much, I got a P-07 for CCW.

but I've never shot a match with either.

But worth every penny.  One is a 9mm for 3-Gun, the other is a .40 for USPSA Limited:

I use an SP-01, the pistol is the one gun I'm pretty competitive with.

I see you tried the GLOCK and M&P--what didn't you like about it?

I shot a 1911 and full custom 2011 in USPSA long before I picked up a G34 for Production Division, and when I started shooting 3gun, I thought my 2011 or tricked out CZ Shadow would be the way to go.  But honestly, the G34 was just better for me for 3gun.  It's plenty accurate, and I don't feel any slower with it than my CZ, and there is something to be said for a safe action pistol when it comes to ditching.  Plus it's a lot easier to toss a $600 GLOCK into a trashcan than a $2,000 STI or CZ.  All that being said, I love my Shadow--just not for 3gun.
