Frozen watermelon with .300 WTHBY Mag., red clay brick with .223, water jugs, canned veggies. I do like reactionary targets.

Gallon water jugs and bowling pins. Used bowling pins are reactive and free from the local bowling alley, lasting a good long time before finally disintegrating. Hitting a gallon water jug at 50m with 7.62x39 FMJ and the jug doesn't even twitch. Hit it with 5.45x39 w/airpocket and not only is the jug shredded but you can trace the bullet's sudden path change caused by the core sliding asymmetrically into the airpocket on impact (I hit one jug high center and the bullet exited low left).

I love shooting stuff that blows up. It is also a good way to keep kids interested in shooting. Punching holes in a piece of paper is only fun to an 8 yr old for a few minutes but exploding milkjugs and metal paint thinner cans will keep him occupied for hours(or until the ammo runs out
 ). I finally convinced my brother that one round of OO buck out of my 12ga 870 was more deadly than ten out of his 9mm carbine when we shot up a bunch of pumpkins after Halloween last year-then he has to reload and I still have 7 more rounds.Finnbear out(gone deer hunting) |

Love blowing stuff up. Pumpkins, water bottles, beer cans, and I absolutely love blowing up old boomboxes. I usually have one or two old work radios laying around that got left out in the rain. They just sit there begging to be shot.

Beer Kegs-they stand up to almost all pistol rounds. BOOM-Paaaanng!
Watch those bounce-backs! The 12Gauge slugs finally opened it up, so I suppose rifle rounds would too. But the have built in handles if you want to hang 'em, or they sit level until you about destroy them and you can see them for about a 1/4 mile away. |

seamusmcoi, I hope you clean up all the dead radios and other crap that you shoot up at the range.
Personally, I have never seen anybody clean up that sort of junk after they shoot it. They leave it for the next guy, or the forest service. That shooting area becomes an eyesore and disgrace to shooters, and will eventually be closed to shooting. |

2-liter bottles full of gasoline with several oz's of gunpowder in a medicine bottle duct taped to it. Add a couple bolts and a target dot to the powder bottle to insure ignition.
Best viewed at night. If you have a cannon try. 2-3 oz's of powder. 1 16oz plastic pop bottle full of gasoline. 1 beer can full of quick set cement and off-shore lead sinkers. One abandoned VW bettle. Again, best viewed at night. Add one BATF agent that has nothing to do. O.K. |

Basicly a muffler. It takes a very fast burst of pressure and slows it down by allowing it to expand within an enclosure and slowly releasing the pressure.

For an interesting experiment, get some expired date ham, rump roasts or tenderloins at the meat department of your grocery store. They always mark it down to pennies.
Do some ballistic wound experiments. Boxes of baking soda are fun too. |

Once I shot a frozen sandwich. The people at the range were like "That Boy be shootin at a sub sandwich." I guess my chanting, "Bad Sandwich....Bad Sandwich." did not help much

Last Saturday we went through FIVE DOZEN CANS of CHEAP SODA.
The explosion of the cherry soda was most gratifying. Shaking helps. But its always a very satisfying carbonized ka-boom.

My favorite is armadillos - shoot 'em with varmint weight hollow points. Now that's a reactive target and the coyotes do all of the clean-up!

Here's a good one for kids, take a raw egg, set it in a top from a bottle to hold it upright, let your son go after it with the .22
Its fun, and they really pop. I may try on with the ar one day. Aslo, take a pumpkin, cut a small hole in top, just enough to get a hose in it and fill it with water. Attack it with weapon of choice, my fav is 44 Mag 240 Gr hollow points, ka-boom.. Pumpkin guts! |

- Glass ball Xmas ornaments after they fade - Fruitcake brick from Xmas - Light bulbs - old radio tubes - crab apples from the damn tree in the yard - Mousse cans - Nearly empty solvent cans  ====================== My father received a case of aftershave from an aunt who worked at the company that made it. Cheap Christmas gift. He tried the stuff, said it stunk. They are pressurized glass bottles sleeved in a metal shell. He stuck one in a small cardboard box out at the 200 yard for a challenge. He put a .243 through it and it went off with a loud bang and huge vapor cloud. About 2 minutes, the firing line was wondering what the hell that sickening sweet smell was that engulfed them. |

If you can find them, cheap terra-cotta figures make great targets. My brother shot a terra-cotta chicken with my .308 PSS at 150 yards and it turned into a cloud of red dust. Reactive targets are so much better than punching paper.

A local range (now closed due to Kali lawz) used to sell them. I stuck one to the bottom of my paper and hit it w/ my 357. Just noise, no flash or smoke. Tore the $#it outta the Silhouette I had stuck it on. |

LOL. I read that. Some guy at a gunshop had a ND right into a crate of the things. Blew the place up and almost killed the employees. I'd say that explosive targets are about the same as a M-60 firework. You'll definitely know when you've hit one...unless it's a dud. |

Ahhhh yes Exploding targets!!! A few years ago my neighbor accross the street had a rather large pumpkin(about 2 1/2 ft in diameter) and Haoween was over. It was emtied out and he put most of a gallon jug of carbide in it and added water. At wich point we cut a sqaure hole in the front and put in a exploding target. One shot with my 20 cal. pellet gun was fantastic. It exploded and blew chucks of pumpkin all the way over to my side of the street. There was nothing left but burning chunks of pumpkin. Then a few weeks ago in the mountains were i do most of my shooting we took a small propant tank with a exploding target on it and it made a huge ball of flames at about 50 yards. We had to hurry and out the fire out before it really got rolling

There's a nifty canyon in the mountains near my home where the locals go to shoot. It's full of pumpkins, grapefruit, cans, bottles, jugs, glass, computer parts, furniture pieces, boards, paper, etc., etc. Looks like a damn land fill. I don't suppose you guys do that, do you?
