I've noticed the last few days that the mods have been getting extreme, people post about paypal, locked and banned, people discussing the creation of a new device locked and warned, WTF, its a global online community and its being policed like an uptight American society. so here's my question, who took a shit in the arfcom wheaties?

From the CoC:

Specific To Sales
1.) Companies or individuals cannot advertise or sell products and or services in the forums (including siglines and titles) without prior approval from the site owners. (Industry Partners are allowed to post sales or specials on a limited basis.)

The fellow with the paypal thread you were speaking of is rrages and he was booted before for the same thing. Then he changed his name to seagrr and came back on trying to sell more stuff. All the praise people give this guy for his product and service but yet he defies the very rules that allow him access, not too smart

i know all about rrages, segarr, whatever, and i understand that, but a post about paypal was locked, he wasn't doing the selling in that post, but whatever, adn tehn teh clip loader post, dude is trying to make something new for teh community, he isnt selling squat yet so explain that one,if he sticks to the EE no one will see his invention, for the smartasses that replied, EAT A DICK.

gunnut, i don't have a problem with them, i don't sell shit, i don't post pics of shit, i don't advertise shit, i keep mostly to myself and read, I'm just inquiring, i saw nothing wring with the diffourichi post, he wasn't selling anything, yet albeit, for all you know he was going to become a vendor once he got the patent. and as far as staying away, i do my best, but they're are a few people that don't have overinflated egos on this site so I talk with them and listen to what they say.

If you are referring to the clip loader thread, you are correct as he technically wasn't selling the item yet. Since he doesn't have an item for sale, he can't sell it. What he was doing was basically building a potential customer base for himself with that thread. This is also the reason I didn't lock his account, and just issued the warning.

I also used the recent threads as a warning to everyone else that have been skirting the rules in this forum. The GSG is a hot item right now, and lots of people want stuff for them. This has brought in a lot of people trying to profit from the demand. Nothing wrong with profiting, they just can't use this site as a free billboard.

This may seem like an all of a sudden type thing, and Site Staff only have ourselves to blame for that. We should of taken a harder stance from the beginning and we failed at it. There are several reasons this occurred, but it doesn't change the fact that we are going to put a stop to it now.

Some people may not be happy about it, but it's just the way things are. I hope that everyone continues to use the forum as a way to share info about the GSG. Once the pimps have been cleared out, things will get back to normal around here.

Some of the "childish" behavior you see may stem from that kind of thing.

Other times, it's just members responding from experience around the site. More than not, when things like this come up, it's usually just a troll or pimp bitching because they don't like following the rules. I'm not saying the OP fits into those categories, just that it happens a lot. So, many members become jaded to threads like this, and respond accordingly.

Sadly, it's just the nature of the beast. The trick is to look bast the bad, and take in the good that comes from internet discussion forums.

Personaly my experience here has been pretty good, no systemic complaints. Pretty much 98% respectful informative diologue and answers to questions. This has been only the second exception to that I have observed.

that's exactly how I feel too, I've seen it a few times in teh ar15 discussions, the handgun section and 2-3 times here in gsg land, but over the boards have been helpful, i just throw a comment back in general and keep on doing my thing. the flamers are the exact reason why i will never sell shit here

Why hasn't the GSG-5 Mods thread been locked or the promag threads or all the other threads that talk about good products that pretty much keep this forum alive? Personally, I hope the guy making the mag loader is successful in his endeavors. I fully support someone trying to come up with a better mouse trap, and profiting from it whenever possible. If or when he gets the item to market, someone can buy it and then do a review here for all the members to read. The "mods thread" is a thread passing along information that is useful to the members here. The many (if not to many IMO) Pmag threads on this site are also information based. If Magpul wants to post about Pmags that is fine too, because they pay to do so here.

I don't handle the dealer aspects of the site, but you may be right that the yearly costs for a small business may be to expensive for a small/start up business. Even if that is the case, we have many business' that support this site. It is those business' that help keep the lights on here, and help the members get the information they're looking for. This site wouldn't be what it is without the support that dealers/IP/Sponsors provide.

So you're saying that it should be OK for someone to just show up and use the site for exposure to promote themselves for free, while others pay for that exposure? If you were a dealer paying the fees here, it would be OK if someone came along and placed ads for the same stuff you were selling?

Ok tell me this. Isn't doing a review in somewhat way promoting a product(be it good or bad, name recognition). The seller is not doing review but is having someone else do it for them and that inturn most likely leads to sales. So in other words it is a commercial for the seller and their product, so shouldn't those be banned too if they are not a paying customer?

I moderate (and have moderated) a different forum for the past 6 years, so I have some insight as to where these gentlemen are coming from. When people register in forums, they often don't read the rules, and sometimes just take outright shits on them. This leads to roughly 1/4-1/3 of them getting banned within about a week of them registering, which is a 25-33% attrition rate. People that generally survive the initial month go on to become productive, helpful, contributing members to the community, however there are always a few that hang around for no other apparent reason than to piss people off.

Someone who obeys the laws and respect them often has issues with people who question them and ignore them, especially when they are perceived to be nothing more than forum trolls. If you are a new guy to a forum, you aren't going to be able to change peoples' opinions of the rules, or you, until you have done something to contribute to the community. As it stands, it looks to them like you are just a troll here to start problems, and I can't say I blame them at this point.

That depends on what the review says about the product. On the forums I moderate, if people selling a product review their own product, or if the person reviewing the product can be connected in any way to the product, they get banned....

That depends on what the review says about the product. On the forums I moderate, if people selling a product review their own product, or if the person reviewing the product can be connected in any way to the product, they get banned....

Herein lies the problem:

This website obviously costs a great deal of money to keep running. Most people on this website are not paying members, and thus, contributing nothing to keep the website running. Some members are paying members, and contribute a little to keep the website running. Then you have dealers and what-have-you that pay thousands to post their wares for all of us to see and purchase, which significantly helps to keep the website running.

If I am a dealer paying $1000+ to advertise my stuff on this website, what is my incentive to keep doing so, if people who have paid absolutely nothing are allowed to keep hawking their crap?

The tragic irony of all this is that the only people that are complaining are free members who have paid nothing....

. This is a technical forum, so I ask the mods how far do we let this guy go with GD type BS...language...attitude..etc.etc.etc....... before someone makes an example out of him. FOR REAL this is getting real old.
