hi all,

i am looking to buy a rem700, but the only place that i have found one is at walmart.  im not a big fan of that place.  are the fire arms there any good? also,  if you have any links to a website that sells Rem Mod700 that would be great.

Well, I don't think Wal-Mart is manufacturing its own guns, so the Rem700 at Wal-Mart probably came from the Remington factory just like all the rest of them.  So the quality ought to be just fine.

As long as your not looking at the new cheap version of the Remington Model 700 (something like a 710 or 740 #) then as stated they are good rifles. However if it's like the one I saw the other day priced less than $400 for a 30-06 w/ a 3x9 scope included, then it's the cheapie and should be avoided.

 I have a Remy from Wallyworld .  It came with a scope of some kind . It is very accurate once
zeored . The action is good also .
I believe it is the mod. 700 BDL . 3006 .

If is a Remington 700, is it a Remington 700.  Buy it at a gun show or Wallyworld it really does not matter.

If the price is good at Wallmart then buy it there.  it's the same gun as your going to get any place else. If you feel bad about buying it from Wallmart you just have to tell your local gun shop what you want and they'll order it for you. I've never been in a gunshop that didn't carry Remingtons so you should have no problem.  And if your going to get a 700 get a BDL rather then an ADL. its a much better gun. I have a model 700 mountain rifle that I love.

I picked up a Remington ADL in 30-06 a couple of years ago at Walmart. After deer season they had them on sale at $293. I had an old HS Precision Stock on hand from a previous project and immediately put it on the ADL (had extra floor plate, etc. from same project). Anyway, it shoots sub-minute 5 shot groups with selected handloads using 180 grain bullets. I never shot it with the wooden stock. But for the money it is probably the best gun you could buy (MY OPINION ONLY). If you don't plan on changing the stock, I highly recommend enlarging the barrel channel so the barrel is free floated, regardless of what anyone else says, or what you have read. Also, glass bed it using Brownells Glass Bed ($8). I have 6 Remington bolt actions and they all shoot better with no pressure on the barrel.

The Remington 710 has a grayish stock. The receiver is a nylon composite insert. It's pretty easy to tell apart from the more classic tubular 700 receiver. The only thing that has concerned me about the M700's from W is the finish. The M700, ADL, I have looked at has just a matte black finish. Per Remington, this is less weather-friendly than blued steel or parkerized. Other that that, no problem. You might want to ask W about any procedures they have when purchasing firearms. I think they may have to escort you out of the store or something. I bought some rifle cases last year and the cashier wrapped them up like they were plutonium or C4.
