I have a Taurus PT945 that doesn't like plated or lead swc's. I've tried an oal of 1.237 up to 1.245, but there's always a feeding problem. I have several 1911's that love the swc's ... especially at 1.245 so I'd like to keep loading them.

Anyway, I was wondering if I would have better luck using flat nose bullets for the Taurus. Would the geometry of the bullet help with loading? Also, do they cut nice clean holes? It's getting harder to see hits at 25yds

Most 1911’s are “Throated” these days…

Prior to all the Colt copies flooding the market, only the Colt Gold Cup Series were throated from the factory.

All the rest would not shoot SWC ammo until they were throated.

But I have never had a 945 but I doubt if the ‘throating’ will make any difference to that one… Maybe some owners will pop in and address that.

As far as clean holes, unless the bullet has a sharp shoulder like a SWC it will only tear its’ way through the target.

Some automatics do not like semi-wadcutters.  The Springfield XD will not cycle semi wadcutters, the case being extracted catches on the sharp shoulder of the bullet, apparently the Taurus has this same problem  click here

My XD-45 won't feed semi wadcutters, but my XD-40 and XD40M will feed SWC all day long.

That's good to know for future reference......the semi wadcutter thing being the only flaw of the XD

Maybe a hair longer at 1.250? That is what I load LSWC at and my RIA Compact will eat them all day long. I had another 1911 that ran great at that length also but sold it off for some stupid reason.

It may just need a heavier crimp.

The PT945 is more like a Beretta 92 in .45ACP.  Not really much of a ramp to polish on this barrel, and the ACP case is a little too straight for the feed geometry.

Taurus does make a 1911 though.  They call it the "1911" and it comes with a lot of "hot rod" features, which probably include a polished feed ramp and throated barrel.
