i cant find specs for a certain round. the 5.56 frangible rounds.

does anyone know where i can find these? the grain of the bullet and the grain of powder and type of powder used specifically.

edit: these are black tip 50 gr bullets. the only black tip ammo for military i can find is 62gr m855a1. so im confused at to exactly what these are. all i know is i was told they are indeed frangible rounds

i have a bag or bullets from a friend who is an armourer and they were pulled from what i was told was frangible rounds. he was complaing how they tear up barrels faster than regular rounds.

i figured i would use them for plinking rounds but i want to look up what they are exactly and what kind of powder it was that was in them...........

i weighted them on my scale and they weigh 50.25 gr. so im guessing they are 50 gr. but i havent found a 50gr frangible round w/ a black tip in any of the military specs. im starting to think maybe they were ordered no through the reg ways the military orders stuff. i know diff entities have expense acounts and can order other stuff so maybe they came through that way. i really dont know.

Military frangible ammo is obvious about being frangible.... Like a brown cermic looking tip.

Here's the test to be sure though:

Use one of the bullets to attempt to adjust your front sight post. If it (the bullet tip) breaks when your push down on the little detent and you ram you're thumb into the front sight base, its frangible.

i weighed a few diff bullets to verify. i have 60gr sierra's brand new in the box.

i will have to try and see if they fall apart, but they are copper jacketed so im not so sure they will.

My guess...........

IF they are frangible.............

A hammer impact will likely/easily tell you the difference vs. the FMJ stuff.

I'd use data for 50 gr. standard bullets (starting low of course).

The only black tip USGI ammo I ever saw was AP. Granted, I have been retired a few years now and there are many new things around.
However, try to pick up the bullets with a magnet. Frangible won't have any iron or steel. Secondly, squeeze one of the bullets hard with pliers (visegrips) and see how or if it crumbles. Frangible are designed to come apart on impact.

I'm guessing you are experienced at "testing" to see if a bullet is frangible in this way!
