Just curious, is a so so load like Remington #1 Buckshot better than a premium load like Federal LE132 00 Buckshot? I've read some places that suggest the Remington is hardened but its obviously not plated like the Federal load. Just wondering since #1 is preferd over 00 and I cant find ANY LE #1 buckshot from Federal without buying a whole case which I cant afford right now.

I did see some from GT Distributing, but you have to be .mil or LE I think in order to buy it.

I use the Federal 00 buck with flight control both on duty and for awkward social situations around the home.  It performs well in both my shotguns and most of the other shotguns I have seen it shot out of.  I have seen one that it performed horribly out of.  The flight control keeps it very tight (mine looks like a slug out to about 10 yards).  As for terminal ballistics, either will work just fine.  Buy the 00 and don't look back.

Would absolutely LOVE to try some of the Federal Tactical No. 1 with their Flight Control Wad, but haven't seen any available yet. Did just order another case of Federal Tactical 00 Buck with their Flight Control Wad from ammoman.com. AWESOME ammo and its $216/case delivered through the 4th with their little coupon code.

What's the advantage of shooting shot if it stays that tight at HD distances?  Why not just go with a slug then?  Less over-penetration?  Just curious, don't want to derail the thread...

Less over penetration is part of it but the tighter that the shot stays, the less chance a stray pellet will strike something (or someone) it shouldn't.  Also, while a slug will make one hell of a hole in someone, the tests I have seen in ballistic gel shows that once the pellets hit a medium they will spread causing a larger permanent wound cavity. Keep in mind that this is a very simplified explanation for something that could take pages.

Well I didn't get a case but I have 2 50 rd sealed boxes of it plus some. It shoots great too. If I could buy a case I would just go with the #1 Federal.

I have a place that sells Federal Tactical (flitecontrol) 00 buckshot for $2.97 per box.  Until that same place starts selling the #1 buck with flite control for $2.97, I'm going to keep stocking up on the 00.

Hot damn that's a good price. I don't blame you. I can buy it online for that procedure but locally, forget about it. I can find Vital Shock but even its $5.50 a box.
