The graduated rear sight is adjustable for volley fire up to 2000 meters -- as if...

The bolt stiffness means that it is new and needs to be shot more! Be sure to buy plenty of ammo for it cause you're not gonna want to put it down once you fire it.

And just remember that most 8mm mil-surp ammo is corrosive, so clean accordingly

If the bolt is you can do the following to improve it.

1) Make sure there is no cosmo in the bolt body.
2) Polish the cocking piece and the cocking piece grove with 600 grit  engine polishing compound using dremel with felt drum.

Mauser's are very simple to work with

Mudzilla, if you aren't satisfied with your M48, you can always give it to me (I'll even offer to pay shipping) and I promise to give it a good home, feed it a diet from its country of origen, and keep it nice and clean.

Why we are on the subject of M48 sights. Mine shoots about 2 feet high at 100 yards. I have moved the rear sight all the way back.Am I missing something or is there something else I can do.
