I am getting ready to embark on developing a .308 target load for my Remingotn 700 LTR out took a max of 600 yards.  I ahve never worked up a load extensivly before.  I mostly been trying different bullets with medium charge weights and had some very good accuracy.  My goal is to find the most accurate load i can for my rifle and load a lot about realoding.  Not going to be shooting matches or defending the perimeter from zombies, this is for my own amusment and satisfaction (although i would like to get into matche shooting someday).  I am looking for advice on how to go about developing a load, what order to change variables, etc.  I just bought 100ct of Lapua brass that i will use throughout testing.  Bullet will likely be 168gr or 175gr SMK.  So variables to test that i can think of poder type, charge weight, primer, seating depth.

Where do start?

Do i just pick a recommeded powder and primer, starting load and work up untill accuracy peaks and then start slowly changing seating depth?

Not sure how to best go about this mehtodically

Answered your own question....

My pet loads are Lapua brass , 39 to 43.5 G of varget ( I like BLC2 also, meters nicely) and 168 to 175 SMK's   , start lower than the manuals say and work your way up as you stated. YMMV

I've used the OCW method, and have been pretty sucessful finding a good stable, accurate loads with it with a variety of rifles.

Dan Newberry's OCW method

I've had pretty good sucess with Reloader 15 in the 308, with 168's.
