why is walnut the main wood used for gun stocks? i know that there's a few other woods used but to take a walk in the woods, i come across trees that i've never heard of their wood being used. such as northern white ash that baseball bats are made of, also oak i think would make a good tight grained wood for a stock. i know elm has always been a tight grained wood, just like hickory and iron wood. it's a few things i ponder while walking in the woods.
