I just got my package with the Leupold scope factory mounted. How closely sighted in is the scope as it comes from Barrett? I am assuming it is a quick job only and obviously will need accurate adjustment. However, at $3 a rd I would hope it starts out fairly well aligned to avoid excess ammo use to sight it in accurately. Anyone have experience with this???

It should get you awfully damn close to center on an 8x11" target at 100m. Probably within an inch or 2.

Try a bore sighting laser first. At about 20 yards you should set the laser point the same distance below the center of the target that the scope is mounted about the center line of the bore. That should put you on the paper at 100 yards.

Is there a way to look down the bore with that thing? I set up my AR50 at 100 yards on sand bags and looked down the barrel at the center of the target, then just adjusted the scope. I believe I was 2" high and left.

My M82A1 was bore sighted ant the factory before it shipped.I was on paper at 2 inches
right of the bullseye.

Update - last night I had the rifle assembled for pre range cleaning and oiling. Several of my gun owning friends stopped by to check it out. While my back was turned, one of them started cranking the scope turrets like they were unscrewing a bottle of ripple.

I should have tasered him on the spot.

Do yourself a favor and get a laser boresight.

I use an AIMSHOT model BSL223 with the BSL5000 arbor.

The boresight is sized to chamber in your AR15.
The BSL5000 is a metal sleeve the boresight fits in to mimic a 50bmg casing that can be chambered.

If you have the Leupold with Barrett rings setup on a M82, your scope centerline above bore axis is 3".

Set up target at 25 yards with a marking 3" above bullseye.

Turn on boresight, chamber and center laser POI on bullseye.
Adjust turret settings for crosshairs to be center aligned 3" above bullseye.

Laser should be on bullseye, crosshairs on mark you made 3" above.

Should only need minor adustments when dialing in during live fire.

You bought a $8000 rifle with what a $1000 scope, and you're worried about $3 ammo?

That $3-$5ammo adds up quick.

There is more than $600 here.

That 690gr. Stuff shot pretty nice out of my M82a1, it should do pretty good in yours.

4 shots to get on paper at 100 yds, 200 yds was easy. Now to dial in 400 yds which is about my limit in the field

I found a Range card for 661 grain ammo that I think is the right one. I'd like to see how close your numbers are to these. If you have a 100 yard zero the drop is as follows.

200= -1.6"
300= -6.5"
400= -14"
600= -64" ?

Pretty good considering your friend thought your scope was a wind up toy Did you end up using a bore site?

Funny thing is, that isn't the first time I heard of someone doing that.
