50.00 made by FN.

Carry-handle-cut with ribbed plastic grip.

Black plastic pistol grip and non-bipod-cut handguards.

Black plastic butt stock with rotating swivel except with some early examples a wood butt was used (with the rotating swivel).  Don't know what butt plate with the wood stock.

Non-bipod-cut 21" threaded barrel

Combo device with wrench flats near the bottom

Grenade-sight gas plug for the Energa rifle grenade.

Type 1 upper and lower receiver

Standard top-cover (no charger guide)

Vertical locking lever

Black enamel over parkerizing finish

Select-fire

Everything else standard for a FAL of this model

I don't know if the Irish crest was placed on the mag well, if any inventory or order serial numbers were used seperately, or if a different than standard designation was stamped on the left receiver rail.  Pretty sure selector was marked S-R-A, although I'm not positive.

They have Type 1 21" FAL 50.00 pattern.

We supplied parts to convert their rifles to DMR FALs last year.

Thanks

Thanks for chiming in, it's great to hear first hand knowledge. Would you have any pics of them you can post?

ETA: What parts were added to make them DMRs?

There's an Irish military manual that actually has a picture.  The Energa grenade sight will probably be the hardest component to find.

One of my BIL's and his son is in Irish Army.  Most troops have been equipped with Styer  Augs for some time now.   Not sure who is being fitted with FALS.
When he first signed up (BIL) 2O yrs ago, he was issued FAL....and misses it.

Anyway you can get pics from your family and post them, or have them post some of the rifles (FAL).

I saw a number of Irish rangers back in the day. Standard 50.00 FALs as stated and Browning Hi Power handguns. Now of course it's the Aug (Standard green A1) and the HK USP 9mm.
