I shot the Gemtech G5 on my lmt 5.56 mm M4 16 in. 1/7 twist. I found that the added weight of the quick locking system actually didnt hinder my ability to come on target and feel that it helped to stabalize my arc of movement. I found the quick lock to be an easy method to remove and install the suppressor which I did several times to run some patches through my bore and just inspect the baffles. My accuracy was not affected, at 50 yards prone one of my groups was covered by a 3/4 inch square paster.

I like the quick lock It seems easier to remove than some of the other suppressors. I was impressed by the yankee hill supressor it also has an easy removal system and I have fired this suppressor on a AK-74 and AR It is built like a tank accurate and does just as good of a job in the sound department as any of the suppressors After Hearing all of these shot with identical ammunition I see no no advantage in some of the more expensive suppressors the cheaper ones do the same job that the expensive ones do and just as well. Some of these are good for their extra weight savings or their attachment meathods. The 7.5" with the OPS was much easier on the ears than expected.  Personaly the one I am lusting after is the little GemtechM4-02 I think this would be great for what I want.

Overall the sound difference was very difficult to determine if any I think they were fairly equal with variations in tone and pitch.

Many thanks to Bigbore for bringing the variety of suppressors to shoot.

All, I am not all that knowledgable in this area.  I have past experience with Gemtech HALO.  I have no dog in this fight and no reason anyone would suspect me as such.

All I will say at this point.  The longer cans seemed a bit quiter than the short ones.  The inexpensive of the group vs. the expensive did not exibit a massive difference.  This is not to say of anything good or bad about construction, reputation, company, etc.  When I was facing away from the shooter, I could tell a small difference from one to another.  However I could not tell you which one was which.

This is in no way endorsing or demeaning any of them.  It was a simple test.  Yes, there are differences.

The newer sure fire was cool, and the YHM looks like a great thing to sink 600$ into.  I was surprised at how well they all worked, weather they were "low" or high end.

The wieght of them did not throw me off at all, I forget witch one was mounted onto mine but it made my AR look really nice.

Thanks for bringing all the cans out for us to play with. It made a great day even better and was my first time firing with one. I think it was the YHM Phantom that was installed on my carbine (if not, correct me) and most of the sound I heard shooting was the buffer spring. Do you have a suppressor for the buffer spring???

While there was some difference between them, it was not that much unless you were farther away.

I will start saving my pennies and order one. I also enjoyed shooting the little SBR that had the suppressor on it. I couldn't believe how quiet that short barreled carbine sounded.

I hope to see everyone again next month.

They were all kickass.  Thanks for bringing those, bigbore.
I couldnt tell much of any difference in sound.  The ones with the quick or quicker detach systems were cool, but I don't think I would really care weather it takes 2 seconds or 5 seconds to put a can on or take it off.

I played with an M4-02 for the day and it was really cool.  If I were getting a can to keep on one gun all the time, this would be it.  I liked how the Ops models covered part of the barrel, and the ease of attachment would be great for a "swap around".

With my back turned away from two shooters, I could not tell whether a 7.5 barrel was firing, or a 16" barrel was.  I was surprised by that.
Any of these muzzle mufflers do a nice job.

Thanks for the informal test session. I wish someone would come to my range and let me "try" some suppressors. I'm waiting patiently for an AAC Pilot in transfer now. After running both my 16 and 20 AR's yesterday at the range under a tin roof, the 16 seems so much louder. I've decided before I buy any new guns, I'll start suppressing th ones I have. I'd love to have an AAC m42000, but the Yankee Hill seems like a much better value for my intended purpose. Informally, which "seemed" quieter, the Gemtech or the Yankee Hill?

By the way, you already started my .45 silencer needs/wants with your Blackside review. Might need one of those too.

This sounds like a possible Suppressor Only shoot like the one held in Georgia with AAC. We can bring our own suppressors plus test the demo cans. Make this an annual event ?

Awsome day of shooting, I think I will put my vote in for the ops mk15, louder than the other ops cans but lighter. YHM was the cheapest and I couldn't say it was the loudest or least cool, I would pick it if I were on a budget. I will be reviewing the ops 15 and gemtec m4 for purchase in the near future, the surefire did not "earn"an extra 300-400$ asking price. Nice but not that nice.

Thank you steve you earned my business, you are the pastie king.

Thanks again Bigbore for the opportunity to shoot these suppressors.  I was surprised at how little difference I heard between all of them.  The gemtech m4 was probably the one I would choose, as it seemed the best to my ears, although saving some money and getting the YHM would be more realistic with my current funds.  I also expected to feel a large difference in weight on the front end with the suppressors, but really didn't notice much.

Again, thanks for bringing them.  I now have a much better idea on which I would purchase in the future.

Pastie King LMAO Bad mental image.  As Steve said this is monthly and structured "psudo training/practice" Anyone with the idea that this is a blast fest will be dissapointed. Not to say it isnt fun, It is fun, safe and educational. Not trying to derail the thread just to clarify. Thanks again Steve for letting us use and test your suppressors.

Did anyone shoot both of the Gemtech cans?

The G5 is quick connect and the M4-02 is screw-on, correct?

I shot the G5  didnt shoot the other the G5 is a quick locking model and comes off easily even after firing alot.  I did hear the M4-02 and they sound the same to me. My.02cents.

My firing point was far right and I did notice that one of the suppressors at the other end of the line was much quieter than the others when we were shooting. There was little difference close in the different models but with me farther away, there seemed a big difference. Problem is I have no idea who was shooting it and which suppressor it was.

I think if we'd stood 50 or more yards away when we were testing them, we'd have noticed a bigger difference. To my ear and from where I was shooting, there was only one that stood out a quieter than the rest. I think that mostly it would be a choice of price and mounting options as the main difference between the rest.

Also a question, a ffl dealer friend of mine told me that if I went and started getting class 3 stuff, the ATF and FBI could come in and inspect my entire gun collection. He said it could be any time they wanted, any time of the day or night. He said that if I got a suppressor, I'd sign away all my rights to privacy. Is this a problem or is he feeding me a line. BTW, he has one class 3 weapon and has never been inspected (for that). All my stuff is legal but I'd rather not have everything pulled out and serial numbers recorded.

Also, thanks for the pics.

That was me then.  I was far left...
My 20" barrel may have been why.
And I think I had the cheapest one on mine, an M4-02 .

He is feeding you a line of bullshit.

Well maybe some truth....

Is heathen trying to get his 07/SOT, or just buy some transferrables???

Dealers need to make themselves available for an audit of the books if requested, right??  They can't show up at unreasonable times for this, but maybe heathen was looking at being an FFL, not just buying stuff....

If he is just being a regular guy and buying stuff on a F4, then the ATF and FBI are not allowed to "show up" without a warrant.

They can come knock on your door anytime they want.  Just like the UPS man can.....lol.   Letting them in without a warant is another story.  If they dont have a search warrant, let them, offer them some tea, and kindly decline a search request.....lol.  If you have illegal shit there is a good chance they know if they are showing up at your door.  lol

Also thanks for the above replies to my question about the ATF. I thought he was full of shit. I'd like to get a suppressor and maybe a SBR with my income tax refund next year, if not sooner. Bigbore, when I get the money, you can expect more dumb questions from me.

On the other question about the quieter suppressor, I didn't realize someone on the other end was using a 20 inch instead of a 16. Makes a big difference.
