Every time I shoot it. Or if it doesn't get shot, once a year if it needs it or not.

Edited because I wanted to.

after every trip to the range except my deer rifle which I leave copper fouled from the couple days before when I check my zero for about the 4th time before deer season till I get a deer or end of deer season. so the longest it will go is about 2 weeks everything else is usually done before I leave the range.

This is my rifle, this is my gun. This is for fighting, THIS is for fun.

I shower everyday and wash my gun with very fast movements of my soapy hand.

Does that answer your question?

Jander as you should know, AR15's never need to be cleaned; they're the perfect rifle and always reliable.  And anyone that doesn't think so is an old fart hillbilly muzzleloader.

I have found the best and easiest way to clean my rifle.  After I am done at the range I put on a complete black BDU outfit.  Then I put camo paint all over my face and some fake Navy  medals I bought at the Gun Show.  After I am all dressed up like a real Navy SEAL I head down to the local river and walk into the water with my AR15 rifle.  Breathing thru a river weed I stay under water for about half an hour or until the rifle is cleen!!

WARNING This will only work if you come out of the water with a mean look on your face!!

Works every time

It seems that we all agree that you clean your rifle/pistol after EVERY time you use it - cleaning of course means disassembling (including the bolt and bolt carrier - or whatever counterpart).

Sometimes I actually enjoy cleaning my firearms as much as (or even more) than shooting them.

Grab a beer, put on the TV and sit on the floor with a big old dirty towel and enjoy the smell of powder and oil - and reminisce about the infantry while cleaning and relaxing.  Good times

I'm a victim of military training.  When I shoot IDPA with my Hi-Power or go to the range with my AR I feel odd if I don't clean them that night.

It's been said earlier in the thread, but it IS enjoyable spreading out the old poncho liner, getting out the CLP, brushes, and rods, and settling in with a nice cold bier for a cleaning session.

After every shooting session.  Every six months if I'm not actively shooting the gun.  I know it may not be necessary, but I'll be damned if I lose a good rifle due to neglect.

Everyone knows that an old pair of "holey" underwear make the best cleaning rag!

You also can't get it completely clean, if you aren't drinking a beer!

Son, they call it "going commando" because you use you last clean pair of underwear to clean your rifle.  As for cleaning your gun.... you need a girlfriend don't you ????
