I am shopping for a compact 22 pistol to use with my SS sparrow suppressor and would like to go with the new ruger but am getting different reports on it. I can't seem to find one with the threaded barrel anywhere. Can anyone confirm that ruger is in fact making this gun with a threaded barrel? I am ready to buy and prefer the ruger but if it doesn't come with the threaded barrel as an option, what other compact 22 pistols are out there that would fit the bill of being small and light but reliable using bulk packs of federal or winchester ammo.

A lot of the .22s on the market are threaded and have a protector over the threads, but it is hard to tell because the threaded portion is inside the slide and not extended and visible.  They require an adapter to work with a can.  I know a lot of the Walther P22s are like this as well as several Umarex offerings such as the Colt Rail Gun.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Ruger were the same way.  I have one in the shop.  I'll check it out and report back after the holiday.

The ruger SR22 doesn't have the barrel end cap design like the walther P22 or the S&W M&P 22 as you're referencing.  The Ruger does seem to have a much heavier barrel than the P22 or the M&P 22.  The Ruger will require an accessory threaded barrel, I just haven't seen anyone offering them yet as I'm keeping my eyes posted for one.

If you find someone that is offering them up, let me know.  I have all three pistols and the only dissapointment with the ruger is its lacking a threaded barrel.

Several weeks back GunTalk had, if I remember correctly, interviewed the president of Ruger when they had Ruger days at a Huntsville, Al store.  He mentioned that the SR22 will have threaded barrels in the future.  Now if they had only done that with the 10/22 Takedowns.  I'm hoping there will be an option for those in the future too.

As for the other part of the OP's question.  The S&W M&P .22 comes with a threaded barrel.  You'll need to buy the Walther adapter in order to use the supressor.   Below is a pic of mine.

thanks guys, if anyone finds the extended barrel ruger or an aftermarket threaded barrel for them, I think I will go that route since I like the size and weight of the ruger and every report I have read on them says they eat pretty much any ammo you want to run in them where the other guns are pickier and/or don't hold up as well to alot of shooting.

re that MP: that actually looks nice but probably is heavier and larger than the ruger. Still, I will have to see if i can find one of those in person and check it out.

On page 25 of the owner's manual, it says that a threaded accessory barrel is available. Unfortunately, this is not true. I have been after Ruger CS since January to make good on that statement and they just don't seem to be able to either come up with a barrel or get thier story straight. It's always "a couple more weeks".

I'd seen posts where ruger said the threaded barrels were an option too but just can't find anywhere to order one on the pistol or as an accessory. I think I might call them this week and ask if a threaded barrel could be ordered from them. I'd gladly pay to get a ruger threaded barrel as the ruger SR22 seems to be the most reliable of all the small 22 pistols and should be a perfect plinker with a suppressor attached.

A company called Twin Tech Tactical makes a drop in threaded barrel for the SR22.

With the popularity of suppressors going through the roof, I dont see why any manufacturer would offer a .22 without a threaded option.

In for some info as well.

I carry a Walther PPS so just to keep the systems similar I wanted to get the P22....but at the end of the day, I don't really care.   I'd looked at all models mentioned thus far in this thread.

This is not jacking the thread at all, I , like most of you, am in for more info on the SR22.

I bought an SR22 today.  Impulse buys, such a love/hate relationship.  Really need a threaded barrel.  Gun runs pretty well, but that double action needs work.  Eeeeesh!

I ordered the Twin Tech barrel kit, which comes with a threaded endcap (for when the adapter isn't installed) and adapter for 1/2x28 threads, but did not include a thread protector for the adapter (IMO, they should have supplied this as part of the kit, they charged enough for it).

The installation was easy, took less than 2 minutes. Everything dropped right in w/o any hassles and fits perfectly, no rubs or clearance issues. My Sparrow threads right up and the centerline clearance is perfect, little or no chance of a baffle or end cap strike as far as I can see. I am planning on running a few rounds through it this weekend to check for function and accuracy (if this 100+ degree weather will let up, some, it's been brutally hot here for the last week, 4 new all-time records in 6 days!).

I'll post an AA report here if I can get out for the testing I have planned.

I do not work for Twin Tech, nor do I have any interest in the company, save that they got there first with the threaded barrels that Ruger should have installed at the factory from the get-go.

IMO, another HUGE blunder on Ruger's part. Now, they're losing money because of it.
