I have a Marlin 795 and I broke part of the scope dovetail when I got overzealous tightening the scope mount after it started to slide after every shot. I picked up one of these: UTG 11mm to Weaver Adapter but I can't use the iron sights with it mounted.

Is there anyway to fix the dovetail, or is there a lower profile weaver rail that'll still let me use the iron sights? Or am I better off getting a rail and drilling and tapping it in?

I would drill and tap it. Ive drilled and tapped several Marlins, even their SS recievers D&T pretty easy.
