"in the counsel of many is wisdom" !!     Could use some expert/practical help here.    I'm beginning to get a nice size collection of knives ( 30 or so) and try to rotate what I carry.  The problem is storing the ones I'm not using properly.  I've got quite a few knive friends who have given me their advice but a lot of it seems contradictory.  I'm especially concerned about my fixed blades. I have a couple of Damascus and one was sold to me in a leather sheath and the other in Kydex ( I was told with proper oiling the kydex was okay for storage??).  Also, any advice about storing folders??  Thanks

I use one of these.  I put sharpening stuff in the top "hidden" compartment, folders in the tray (on top of the bottom compartment) and fixed blades in the bottom...

If your collection is 30 fixed blades, I don't think they will all fit in 1 box.  If it is mostly folders, it should fit easily.  You can throw a desiccant pack in the box if you are worried about moisture.  I don't know anything about the care an feeding of Damascus steel though so I can't give any advice on them...

I have some similar to this. They are more for folders though, I too have several fixed blades sitting around. (Tag for ideas)
As far as Damascus blades go, I'm pretty sure if you treat them as a carbon steel blade you should be fine. Also I'm pretty sure the leather sheath can hold more moisture than a kydex one. One of the blade/steel experts should be along for a better explanation.

Do not store the Damascus in a leather sheath. Oils from the leather can discolor the steel (or any steel for that matter).
Watch the kydex, I don't use it because a piece of sand or piece of the shit, itself, scratched a custom blade a few years back.

Most folders I store using individual cases like Bill's Custom Cases: http://www.billscustomcases.com/

I do keep a folder worth $12,000 in an appropriately sized Otter box.
They all get stored in the safes with the guns, too.

For folders: Get a Spyderco spyder pak.
For fixed blades: I would use cardboard to make a "sheath" and use a little oil before putting the blade in. Then I store them in an old "silver" ware box.
