My vote is for the M4. The new gas system was designed because it was an improvement, so you might as well have the best Benelli has to offer.

I have both and the M4 is much smoother with less felt recoil

My M4 kicks the crap outta me. But i surmise all shotguns do, except for my son's 20 ga 870. |

in top of being a big guy 6'1" 280 lbs I really like the Remington reduced recoil loads

I can't speak to differences in perceived recoil, but the M4/1014's gas-assisted action should theoretically be more reliable than the recoil-operated M1. Especially when you go hanging lights, side saddles, electronic sights, slings and such on it.
I've shot M4M's M1014, and liked it quite a bit.  |
