so, i wanted a bullet that would be accurate at a decent range and have terminal performance at said range.

on a whim i bought a box of bullets called combined technology. its a product made by nosler and winchester(hence the name)
the bullet is a ballistic silvertip, 180grain projectile. supposed to be "extremely accurate for long range hunters"

my savage .308 with sierra match kings will shoot 1/2" MOA at 100yeards all day long(my bench mark before moving out to further distance). but with these CT bullets, i cant seem to shoot a group of 4 even under an inch. my groups so far have been like 2"-3"...which IMO is not acceptable....ESPECIALLY at 100 yards.

the mix:
CCI BR-2 primers
hornady match brass
reloader 15 powder
CT silver tip 180 projectile

to date ive tried it loaded with 44g of powder, 43.5g, 43g, 42.5g...and my groups still suck with it.....maybe my boom stick just dosent like them?

any body use these before?

Sierra's 165 and 180 grain SPB Game King bullets are very accurate in my rifles. They usually shoot as well as Match Kings. They are my first pick for an accurate hunting bullet. They don't cost as much as the fancier bullets which is always a plus.

Can always try a different powder.  I shoot the regular Nosler BT with good success and the Accubonds shoot even better.  Mine isn't a .308 though.

I have used the 168 ballistic sliver tips (BST) in my M1a and M1 garands a few years back for a hunting load.  About the best I could do with these bullets were 1.5 inches at 100 yards.  Now that isn't so bad out of my M1a, my garand wasn't quite as good, maybe around 2 moa.  Of course, my M1a and garands shoot about that with just about all handloads.

Anyway, I quit using them because they ruin too much meat and sometimes don't go all the way through the deer.  I require my hunting bullets to exit the deer so it has two holes to bleed from.  After finding a couple of the BST in deer from my 308 and throwing away a bunch of meat in the process, I tried hornady's interbond bullet.

The interbond allowed me to get about 1.25 inch groups at 100 yards out of my M1a and they work very good on deer.  Bullets exit the deer and the deer expire quickly.  The interbonds about about the same price as the BST's so it was a no brainer for me to switch.

I have only used the nosler accubonds in my 6.8 spc for deer hunting but I was very impressed with their preformance this year.  I shot 5 deer with them and 3 dropped in their tracks, one ran about 50 yards, and the last I had to track (due to piss poor shot placement on my part.  Was NOT a bullet failure).  I did load some up in 30-06 to see how they grouped but they shot very high (off the paper) so I have to re-work them and re-zero my rifle for these bullets.

Unless you are dead set on using them, I'd recomend other bullets for deer hunting.  The BST would be a very nice SD round.
