I am going to buy a bolt action rifle, it will be used for 150+ yds.  I am looking for accuracy first, power second.  I do hand load and will go through about every option in powder and bullets.  What cartridge will be better .308 or 30-06?  Or is thier an other option?
Thanks in advance

Sure there is other options but my advice is

Hunting - .30-06,

Target Shooting - .308

Obviously .308 will kill a whitetail with no problems but a .30-06 has more energy.  Both are .30 caliber.  Both will kill the same size game but the ranges will differ, .30-06 will do it further.

+1

.30.06 if this is going to be a hunting type rifle; if its going to be an all you can do/accuracy base rifle, get the .308--more loads

doesn't the .308 shoot a bit flatter too?

No. For all practical discussions, the trajectory is essentially identical, assuming you compare the same bullet.

I prefer the .308.

not saying the .30-06 inaccurate, but your criteria of "accuracy first, power second" put the .308 in the lead.

I had a sporter weight .30-06, used it mostly for target shooting.  Wasnt as "accurate" as i was looking for so i traded it off for a heavy barrel .308win.  Im very pleased with how the 308win shoots.

the .308 should be more accurate, it's fatter with straighter walls and short action. 100fps. isn't going to make much difference under 500 meters, after that it's just a couple extra clicks come up. any game animal i'd shoot with the 06 i'd shoot with the .308 in same situation. ymmv

30- 06 for hunting
308 win for target
30-06 has more factory loads and is easy to find more power
308 smaller groups less felt recoil
I like 308 for target work 30 -06 for hunting
