comes in plain brown boxes of 20 saying:
7.62x51 BALL R1.M1 and 2 lines of text: 204L and A978...

headstamp reads: LA78 R1M1
.
.
.
I am guessing it's South African. If so, how do I go about making sure this isn't a batch of the tar stuff?

It's definately South African (mfg in 1978) and may very well have the tar sealant. Just pull a bullet to find out, it will be quite obvious.

My money would be bet that your lot  is not one with the tar sealant.  All the trouble lot numbers I've seen posted so far are from 1981.  I hope that turns out to be true for you, but let us know for sure what you find out.

That is encouraging news...especially since he wants .10 cents a round.

Will this tar actually be and look like black tar if it is the bad stuff? I've never pulled a bullet before, so I don't know what another would look like inside by comparison...
