from a rifle barrel's muzzle. (if you could see them and move fast enough, that is). The point is that they are almost completely out of power at that range. The military's minimum energy level for lethality is the penetration of a 1" pine board, and 60 ft lbs of energy. The .22 lr rifle bullet is down to that level at 150 yds. A .22lr bullet's blunt nose means that it loses power and velocity very quickly. It also drifts in the wind like a balloon.
At 300 yds, the .22lr has about 15 ft lbs of energy left, about like a bb "rifle", but with a larger- diameter, soft lead bullet. From a .22 pistol, figure on more like 200-250 yds, depending upon the length of the barrel. No, using Stingers doesn't change anything, either. Their higher initial velocity just means that they are fighting more air-resistance. So they slow down faster. Add to that their lower bullet wt, and the result is the same at such long range. It's best to not kid yourself about how "effective" a .22 rifle will be for shtf combat-situations. Beyond about 50 yds, given a good autorifle, with a silencer and subsonic loads, pulling head shots, (from cover and ambush-conditions, at dusk, with a good escape route) the .22 rifle doesn't amount to much at all. Yes, it's still highly likely to be (eventually) lethal with a torso hit at 100 yds, but the "hittee" is likely to remain functional for many minutes, if not hours, and he can cover that 100 yds in 15 seconds or less, firing as he comes. He's not likely to be alone, either. |

YOU FIRST!!!!
Oh yeah IBTL.. if some stupid ass kid reads this , they may actually try it. |
My use of a .22 in either rifle or pistol would be for game getting only in a SHTF situation. All other targets will be dealt with via .223 to .50BMG.
P.S. I'm not volunteering to catch any .22s at any distance |
just as a rule of thumb, its best not to be downrange of ANY projectile, regardless of what any "fuzzy math" might conjecture about its energy at a given distance.
and as a side note, regardless of whether it is true or not, it is the single STUPIDEST thing i have ever heard ANYONE suggest. |
Hmm....what if the 10/22 is mounted on an assault wheelbarrow?
What then? |
Then you might as well surrender, because you're facing the Almighty and Invincible GunKid, and you are toast. Resistance is futile! Run Away! He's even worse than the Lord Humongous, Mabu Warrior-Warlord of Armageddon, and Alan Connor and his band of Amazon Grinjas. We need the background music for Shaft on this thread. BTW, that first post looks an awful lot like GunKid's own stuff. Has he been kicked off this board recently? |
At 400 yards, from the time you see the smoke to the time the projectile arrives, you have one second to dodge a .45-70 bullet. Theoretically, anyway.
I don't exactly see anyone lining up to try it. |

I know for a fact Winchester Wildcats will poke nice holes in steel drum at 250YDS and they will also go through 1X2's (target stands) at 350YDS.
You first dude. The 22LR is IMHO the most under rated killing round on the market. |
Dude, I have wanted to know how to do that for ever! There was something worth while in this thread after all. |
Grasshopper...when you can pluck the .22 bullet from the air, you will be ready.
Ready? Ready for what? To post stupid shit on the internet? |
62 posts in 2 days and counting. It's either a troll account, too much caffine, forgot to take his meds or his mama put too much suger in his cheerios. |
Not too unusual if it's coming from GunKid. If it's not coming from GunKid, the original poster might want to avoid looking so much like him. That's a good way to end up being booted off message boards. It's done that for GunKid all over the internet. About the only message board he can get away with posting on these days is the one he owns, and he posts there under several different names. |
He is a fucking poser piece of shit that hits all the gun boards, in the beginning ya think he may be normal than then you get off the way stupid posts like this one. Soon there will be arguements and so forth. Jus another loser that didnt get enuff attention. |
to long to explian,, just think waterhead on crack with a 22lr |
I nominate this thread for "Most retarded post of the day".
Go try it, and report back. |
You havent seen the "how to hang a deer" thread yet. surprisingly its from the same author. |
Right. He's one of the biggest losers, posers, and wannabes on the internet. He's been kicked off of just about every gun, survival or homesteading message board he's ever managed to get on. He's starved for attention, and will do anything to get it, but it's never enough. He drags down any message board he manages to get on, and makes them all waste time dealing with him until they give him the boot. His crap about the Assault Wheelbarrow and his other crazy survival ideas are easily enough to reveal the fact that drugs have been an important part of his life. He's spent a large part of his wasted life in prison. Even though he claims to be a gun expert, he admits to having shot himself twice in accidental discharges. Some "expert", eh?
He still calls the cops idiots, even though they've managed to catch him three times, so what does that make him? |
It's been a while since i have heard someone say that term. |

You might want to hold off on that nomination. This guy can USUAL-ly come up with some whoppers, so he may be just warming up. |

they always forget to add..
"....ONLY if bump-fired underwater!" |

I've been thinking about a Ruger 77-22 all weather in 22mag.
Cut the barrel to 16.25 and throw a nice 2-7 on it. I've got the same set up in 22LR and it's one of my favorites... Pete |
I am just going to assume you are having a temporary "VAPOR LOCK OF THE CRANIAL CAVITY".
You're obviously not familiar with GunKid. His vapor lock is not temporary. It's very permanent. I've seen his garbage online for years, and I doubt anyone could pretend to be that stupid for that long. Nope. It's not an act, and it's not going to change. |
Definatly Gun Kid..... or his fudge packing cell mate at the very least.

Reminds me of the Mad Max movie where the bad guy trys to catch the boomerang .
Let us know how it works out for you. |

Yep, the penguin tracked it down the other nightin another post IIRC. |

At 300 yds, the .22lr has about 15 ft lbs of energy left, about like a bb "rifle", but with a larger- diameter, soft lead bullet.
Actually that's about like an overpumped Benjamin/Sheridan, but with a 40 grain bullet it would also have a hell of a lot more momentum. So if you think you could catch a pellet from one of those at point blank, be my guest. I've seen them kill plenty of rabbits and crows and even a couple of raccoons and I'm sure as hell not going to put my hand in front of one. |
May be, but I learned somehting in this thread. I had no idea we had code tags. |

in before the hold my beer and watch this, edited: i havnt read the whole thread so there may be a chance that someone has said this proir to this |

Chuck Norris once caught a ....
Unusual, when has anybody said anything about using a .22lr for a SHTF combat situation? .22lr would be a food getter. |
Gunkid, you'll find plenty of boards talking about this guy. I encountered the idiot on another board, he is something else that's for sure. The Mods found out he had his own discussion forum, SilentStreakPress, he must have forgotten to pay his server because it has disappeared from the web. I don't know if the originator is Gunkid or not but from what I've read him post elsewhere Gunkid is a big fan of the .22lr with silencers, as a matter of fact that all he spoke of, IIRC. ETA: If this guy is Gunkid it won't take long for him to show himself, it's inevitable he can't help himself from spouting off |
