I'm in the process of gathering the parts to build another upper from my SBR, using a 10.5" YHM 5.56 barrel, tipped with a YHM 762 QD suppressor.  (when the stripped upper gets here from Del-ton next week, I'll have all the pieces)

Do you screw on and tighten the QD mount directly to the barrel, or do you install a Crush Washer between the Barrel shoulder and QD mount?

I've put the first mount directly on my 300/221 direclty with no crush washer, wondering if i did it wrong there?

Buffer Q - Std Carbine buffer?  H2 Buffer?    I'll primarily be shooting this with a 7.62 suppressor on the end of it, if that makes any difference.

Also - whats the "O-Ring mod on the extractor" I've seen mentioned?

You can tighten the FH directly to the barrel.

On several uppers I've chosen to use peel washers to time the ports or in the case of the 762 QD Brake, I had to to correctly time it.

The shim kits usually include enough variety to get them aligned if you want to.

A couple pics:

I chose to time the FH simply because I didn't like how it looked when tightened to the barrel when simply torqued on.

You'll find it to be an easy install.  Good luck sir.

I called Yankee Hill, they said not to use any type of crush or peel washer. Maybe you should call. I could have gotten the wrong info.
I have the QD brake which comes with peel washers. the QD flash-hider doesn't.

A crush washer is exactly what you want to use if you enjoy suppressor misalignments and baffle strikes. Crush washers may not always crush perfectly flat. Saw a guy do it one with a brand new suppressor. His new suppressor lasted one shot.

They may not recommend using peel washers on the FHs, but they include them on both the 5.56 and 762 QD Brakes.

Not with any of the 4 I have.

The 5.56 Brake mounts I've purchased have had them.  The 762 Brake does include an 8 pack of peels.

Can't say for the new brake mounts.  All of mine are the standard flashhider QD version.

The FH QDs do not come with peel washers.

Only the 556 and 762 QD Brakes do.

Haven't used one on any of my YHM FHs.

Just to repeat what others have said, do not use any type of washer. Just tighted them down directly onto barrel. Although, I would recommend some Rocksett. I ran about 100 rounds through mine and when I took the suppressor off the QD FH was loose and started unscrewing. I am VERY lucky I didn't get any baffle strikes.

I just got a QD Brake mount for 5.56 and it came with a peel washer. It wouldn't time right without it.

YHM wrote me back:

"Sir,
No, the QD mounts are designed to bottom out on the shoulder of the
barrel. DO NOT use any type of washer or you will make the QD mount not
concentric with the bore of the barrel causeing a baffle strike in your
suppressor."

UPS Tracking says the rest of my 10-1/2" upper parts will arrive tomorrow!  Should be able to assemble and test it out after work.

RR: congrats on the parts arrival

I can't figure out why the Brake QDs ship with peel washers. Looks?

Someone there needs to realize what they're actually selling contradicts what this person is saying.

I'd be surprised if the 762 QDs aren't made from exactly the same forgings as the FH but with different machining operations.  Dimensionally they're identical. The ratcheting plates are the same.  The suppressor threads are the same.

Email them again and I'm sure you'll get a different answer. Why say "don't use a washer" then send me a QD 5.56 Brake with a peel washer? I used it to time my brake. Even the FH Q.D. Wouldn't time right without one.
