I am out of Varget and am having trouble replacing it. I have a load developed for my SPR that will shoot pretty consistent .5 moa 5-shot groups. It took me a while to develop this load, but I am happy with the results. My local shop has a few lbs of N140 in stock. According to Sierra, this is their favorite powder for the 77 SMKs, their load being 24.1 gr. I cross referenced with their Varget loadings and my Varget load is off their max of 23.9 gr by .3 gr, but I assume my Wylde chamber allows higher pressures.

Should I give N140 a shot and see if I can improve on accuracy? Lots of people seem to think VV powders are great, but will I really see a great improvement? If so I have no problem working up a new load.

I have always wanted to try out that powder, but now things are slim pickins. I say go for it. I think it is also supposed to be a great powder for the M1 as well.

Every Vhit. powder I've tried has been great. But the availability has been always spotty and the price is high. I guess that's the way it's going to be for all powders these days.

My Hornady book lists N140 as giving them the best results.

Well I just got back from the shop and they had N160, not N140. So there goes that.

I did manage to get 2k Wolf LP and 1k Wolf SRM primes. All for $73. Yay, sort of.

I am just trying h4895 and IMR 4895 using the data from Hodgdon for the loads. No body seems to be using it much. Am I missing something with this type powder. Found some in stock

I have a pound or so of RL-15 already. It seems that it is almost a straight substitute to Varget in .223 loads. All data seems to be within .1 gr in my manual.

I have found the VV 140, H 4895, IMR 4895, and TAC as well as Varget to be awesome performers in the 5.56 with 75 and 77 grain bullets. My absolutely most consistent load is the Sierra accuracy load with VV 140.
