Hi, I have a Winchester Model 70 Sporter varmint chambered in .223 rem with 26" heavy barrel.
I love how accurate this rifle is but I simply can not find out the twist rate.  I want to start hand loading for this rifle and am looking for the outer limit of bullet weight.  So any one have one and know the twist rate?
Thanks ahead of time.

You can check yourself with a cleaning rod, make a mark on it and then push it in until the mark has made a complete turn. Measure how far you had to push it in until the full rotation was made.

This was probably borderline un readable but I hope it helps.

Tried that, but maby i didn't have enough patches on the rod cause it wouldn't rotate.
Will try it again.

I have a 1995 Shooters Bible on the shelf, and it says that the Model 70 Heavey Barrel Varmint with a 26" barrel in 223 has 1/9 twist.
