Other than Boyds Stocks, does any other vendor offer walnut M14/M1A handguards?

Thanks for the link. I did not see wood handguards on their list unless by "solid" they mean wood.

You do mean the piece that goes above the barrel, rather than the stock, right?

http://www.fulton-armory.com/MAParts.htm has a "Handguard, New Walnut, Unfinished"  listed for $39.95, about half way down the page

BTW, the originals were like these, fiberglass, and came either slotted or solid.

Thanks for the link, Gunny.

I believe M14s were originally equipped with walnut handguards but they burnt up under full auto fire.

I believe their are some for sale on gunbroker right now, not cheap though. The seller shows a pic of the original box and them coming out of the wrap at almost 200.00 each...,

+They were prone to cracking and splitting.  thin walnut not very durable.

It is my understanding that the experimental T44 had wood handguards,  but the early M14 rifles had slotted fiberglass handguards.

Correct?

I bought one from Fulton Armory and its pretty thick so you shouldn't have any cracking issues.

Can you post a pic? I'd like to see one installed.
