I have the 5300.38 form and wanted to know:

1 - Is this the correct form?
2 - Do you just leave the questions blank that don't pertain to you as many refer to the license as a business.
3 - Who has filled one out recently and could say what fields to complete? Fields 1-15 are pretty obvious they need to be completed but the others I am not so sure of.

It really depends on the person at the BATF that gets the form. Kind of like a lottery.<G>

I filled my change of address form three months ago. A month after moving I contacted the ATF and asked WTF, where is my license? They sent me a renewal form with my new address on it (my old license expires in Oct 2005) but they have never sent me a current license back with the correct address. Who knows what those ya-hoos are doing over there in GA or up in DC.
I guess I am out of luck until my renewal comes back.

ed to add: I got my renewed C&R in just two weeks. I guess they can move if they want to after all.

IIRC if it pertained to businesses I left it blank. I seem to recall the directions were pretty self explanitory, don't overthink it. The form you need is indeed the 5300.38.

I just went through this a few days ago. I sent it the 5300.8 30 days in advance of my move as required (even though they have no way of telling). Day 31 rolls around, I call the number on the form and leave a message for the VA/East Texas processor (same lady) telling her I followed the guidance and no license. She calls me back the next day saying she will have it in the mail tomorrow. I had it two days later (which was last Saturday-the 16th).

Moral of the story: give them adequate time and then bother the hell out of them. I swear they just sit on applications/renewals until you call. That's how you get moved up in the stack. The squeaky wheel gets the grease (and their door kicked in at 4 am LOL).

Tagged, I am moving very soon too.

I hope mine comes back soon. I assume dealers can only ship to the address on the license?

Back, finally!

Same here. I had to call to get my license. I used "N/A" for the business hours and lease stuff.

when i changed my address a year ago they told me that i had to fill out the certification of citizenship form. i sent it in, but never was able to confirm that it was actually needed, or not. can't hurt and might help. you can print it off in the forms section at ATF.

Correct.

They can ship to you at any address but I don't know of any dealers that will ship to an address that is not on the license. I know I wouldn't unless I knew you personally.

I emailed the ATF on 6/17 to confirm which form and I got the following email back on 8/9. I did not send in my original license (I mailed the form based on advice from this forum), but the ATF did give me a new license in about six weeks after my request was mailed (faster than the email response).

Good morning,

Thank you for contacting the ATF's Federal Firearms Licensing Center (FFLC) with your e-mail inquiry.

You must submit ATF Form 5300.38, Application for an Amended Federal Firearms License. You may download the form at: http://www.atf.gov/forms/pdfs/f530038.pdf.

As a collector you must complete all items on the form except items 4,14,15,16, and 17. All references to "business" should be considered "collecting activity." Mail the form along with the original license to:

Federal Firearms Licensing Center
2600 Century Parkway, Suite 110
Atlanta, GA 30345

I hope this has been responsive to your e-mail inquiry. Thank you for allowing the FFLC to assist with your inquiry and/or concerns.

Sincerely,
Daisy Correa

Subject: Curio & Relic Question

To Whom It May Concern:

I have a C&R License and currently reside in MA, but I will be moving at the end of the summer to NH. Am I required to submit any paperwork indicating that I have moved my residence? If so, could you please refer me to the proper paperwork?

Thank you

Interesting, I did NOT have to send in my original license. Still have it, along with the new one. Typical .gov, you get a different answer from everyone you ask.

I did it back in March. Sent in the form and got a new license in April. No mess no fuss. Yep, I was very suprised.
