I received my C+R license today and have already sent off four signed copies to my favorite vendors.  (Midway, Brownells, AIM Surplus and CDNN Investments)

Who did you send yours to?  Everything work out OK?  Any companies offer discounts?

How much is the discount?

I still haven't sent my C&R out yet.

Damn, I forgot about this and got an order from Brownells a couple weeks ago...

well, I can't come up with a % but like I said, you will recoup the costs of your C&R with a couple purchases from Brownells alone.

I can't say about Midway, as I just sent it off last week...I kept putting it off until then.

I think 7IDL nailed it. His list is pretty complete. Anything you add to that would be the odd dealer who happens to have something you want.

Brownell's discount varies heavily from item to item.  They generally don't discount gunsmithing tools at all, with some exceptions, which I can only think are mistakes.   For example, the DPMS Multi-Tool retails for $33.95, dealer price is $19.95.  The Smith Enterprises tool, which is pretty much the exact same thing retails for $36.70, and there is no dealer discount.

If you have a catalog, the dealer price is coded in.  For example, the line listing the price for the aforementioned DPMS tool is:

#231-000-007 AR-15 Multi-Tool 1C19D95......$33.95

The bolds were added by me, but represent the dealer price.  The above discount, is pretty deep.  Most stuff isn't discounted that much.  However, you'll note there are plenty of other places that sell the tool for much closer to the "dealer" price of $20 than Brownell's $34 normal price.  Other stuff is hardly discounted at all.

However, I find that I actually get a better end price from Midway.  The actual % discount from Brownell's is more, but Midway's "normal" price is often much less.  For example (and somewhat ironic), I can get Brownell's Acraglas cheaper from Midway than direct from Brownell's.   It seems like Brownell's is aimed more at dealer sales and Midway to "regular" folks.  Brownell's "normal" prices are sort of like "manufacture's suggested retail" prices, Midway's "normal" prices are more along the lines of what you'd normally expect to pay at a store (i.e., less that MSRP), and the dealer price could go either way.

Good thing about Brownell's is they have flat rate shipping ($6.95, unless they've increased it lately), including backorders.  Midway charged shipping based on weight, but it is not outrageous.  They also charge each backorder shipment as if it was a separate order, so shipping will be higher if your order ends up going out in multiple shipments.  However, Brownell's does not offer online inventory status, whereas Midway does, so you know if there are going to be backorders beforehand.  I've placed more than one order at Brownell's really only needing one thing, but ordering multiple items because of the flat rate shipping, and end up having the thing I really needed backordered.  Brownell's also carries a larger number of products, but Midway is pretty rapidly expanding their line.

Rocko,

So anything in the catalog works that way?

For example (picking random products from the catalog) a CAV Arms stripped receiver '2K120A00 $150' is actually $120?

Or are C&R holders limited to the discount on certain items?

Damn, I could have saved $20 on my Norgon if I had remembered...

you pay the dealer price for whatever you can receive.

If you have a C&R only, then of course you're basicly limited to everything EXCEPT receivers and whole weapons (anything requiring a dealers license (type 01 FFL)).

Do Ya'll think it's a good idea to send that thing to everybody in the brother???

If one of these companies gets raided for doing something "illegal" they might visit everyone they've done business with.....one day.

Not trying to flame anyone, but I only use mine from other "individuals" or small FFL holders.....yet

I ain't sending mine to anyone, at least until I'm sure I'm gonna order form them.

Makes sense.  Still a fantastic deal, I guess I'll stop eyeballing those STI frames though...

Yes, that is correct - dealer price on the Cav Arms is $120.  Of course, being a non-C&R firearm, you couldn't purchase it yourself.  I don't know if they would allow you to order it under your account and have it shipped to an 01 FFL.  Other than that, you get the same discounts as any other non-volume dealer.

Midway's catalog uses the same sort of price coding as well.

That's what I was hoping, perhaps building of an STI frame and slide, but either way, there are some good deals to be had.  I spent most of the day looking through my Brownells book to see what I 'needed.'

Looks like this C&R is going to cost me a whole lot of money!
