I bought this upper last week because the price was hard to resist.  There are no markings of any kind on it.

I posted a similar thread to this in General Discussion, and along with the expected tomfoolery came many sincere warnings to never fire it.  One reply suggested that I ask in the 50 caliber folks in here.  I have decided to hold of on firing it for now,  but I was originally hoping someone could positively identify it as a known safe setup so I could fire it with confidence.

So does anyone recognize this?

The thread in GD for reference:  GD thread

The bolt looks like a taclite spartan. But i really have no idea for sure.  It has no markings at all, not even under the handgaurd?

Maybe an early safety harbor firearms upper? There was another company
That made an upper similar to safety harbor but cannot think of the name.

I've checked everywhere, even under the handguard, and there's no identifying marks, not even caliber markings.

It definitely is in the style of Tactilite.  I also see the front of the receiver has similar contours,  as well as the handguard and brake.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention- it was suggested in the other thread that it may be a SH upper.  I did email them the photos, and they replied that it was not one of theirs, and they had no idea what it was.

I will also run it by Tactilite and see what they have to say.

Might call zel custom as well. I had to google to make sure but they do or did use tac lite uppers. Could be a earliy model or something from them. Will it chamber a 50 round? It looks like its been used some by the wear on the lugs. The guy u bought it from had no info at all?

It will chamber a round nicely.

The guy I bought it from said he never fired it.  He told me that he bought it from a guy who thought it was a Ferret.

He said he bought it, and wanted to sight it in and shoot a deer with it.  When he got to the land owners place, the farmer took one look and said no way.  Later on, he took it to a range with dirt berms, which also said no.  He took it home and put it up for a few years till he decided to sell it, never having fired it.

Looks exactly like a blackthorne upper to me, down to the sightrail, shiny band and muzzle brake. Might try finding someone with a membership to the FCSA and having it posted on the members forum, I let mine lapse. Most of the others in that style have much more substantial sightrails.

Don't have one, haven't seen one in a while, but think it is of Safety Harbors Design.

Definitely not a Ferret 50.

JT526.. Thanks a lot,  that's the one.

That's not the news I wanted to hear, but I'm glad to know for sure.  The ad does make it sound nice, doesn't it?

It has been fired some. There's carbon in the brake, and brass coloration on the bolt.  I believe I'll just save my ammo till I get an AR50 or M99.  As I said, the price was right, so I'm not hurt to bad on it.  I guess I can sell it as a lamp post with a clean conscience.

Thank you all again, I really appreciate it!

The barrel might be good enough for a side project. The AR50 is a great rifle. Heavy and long but such a pleasure to shoot and accurate as all get out.
