I had originally wanted to get an M&P15-22p pistol and put a stock on it, but the more I research it, the more I don't think that it's gonna work.  So someone gave me the idea to buy the M&P15-22 Rifle, register the lower, then buy the pistol and put the pistol upper on the rifle lower.  Great idea, but not very cost effective.  BTW, S&W confirmed that the uppers ARE interchangeable, so at least I know it will work.

Anyways, I was at Gander Mountain slobbering on all their firearms, and I saw that they had an M&P pistol, and right next to it in the case was a GSG pistol.  It was even $50 cheaper.  I didn't have any money on me at the time (probably a good thing), so I left to come home and start researching the GSG.  I found all the info we have on arfcom, and it's all making my decision really hard.  Looks like this little .22 would be a hell of a lot of fun, and cheap to modify as well.  The more I look at it, the more I lean towards it, but I really like the "AR" styling of the M&P.

Does anyone have any range time with either of these guns?  What are the pros/cons, and what are your general feelings about either?

Are you looking for a dedicated .22LR weapon, or would you be open to an AR-15/22 conversion?  I have a Spike's 5.5" upper for my SBR, and it's ridiculously fun.  CMMG is about to drop their line of pistol uppers as soon as later this month.  I've shot the Smith & it's ok; I really prefer the aluminum of a standard AR lower.  One of the guys I work with swears by his GSG pistol, but he's only got about 3,000 rounds through it so far.

ETA: CMMG should be around the $400 mark or so with handguard for the complete upper, if I remember correctly.  My 5.5" is accurate enough to hit a quarter-sized shoot 'n see offhand at 25 yards, and that's with a no name fakepoint.

I'd wait for CMMG's and just SBR that.  I was going to SBR the GSG, then the 522 Pistol, but found a 4.5" upper for an AR and decided on that.  This has been one of my favorite rifles to shoot.  I'll be picking up a CMMG one to add to the list too.

I don't like the M&P for the reason that the lower is plastic. I'd just do a normal AR lower and build it up as a .22, or go with the GSG. I like the GSG SBR's.

The Sbr"d GSGs look a lot cooler as sbrs especially the K models.  The AR15 platform will give you more options though if you get a standard AR lower and not the M&P15/22.

Dedicated is my only option.  I just don't want to get a conversion/new upper/anything like that.  I just want to have a fun little gun I can pick up and go out and shoot some targets with.  I don't wanna fuss around with switching parts around or anything like that.

I also want something that I can have fun customizing and modifying, without breaking the bank.

I'm about 87.5% sure that I'm going to go with a GSG-5PK pistol.  I like the looks of it, and it is pretty comfortable to hold.  Most people seem to be pleased with them as well.

I've been saving up for a couple months now, and I have the money, but now I have to find a way and go buy this thing without my wife realizing that I am not really as "broke" as I've been telling her I am, lol.  I've been "poor mouthing" pretty bad, and I know she'll know something is up when I walk through the door with a new $500 gun and a case of ammo for it.

sh*t...

I've been looking at CMMG barrels for my .223 SBR project.

BTW, that little thing is SICK!  Can I borrow it?

Well, I made up my mind, I went and put my GSG-5PK in layaway at Gander mountain.  Even managed to alk them down from their already reduced price of $449 to a cool $399.  Now I just have to dupe the wife somehow so I can pay it off real quick and bring it home...

LMFAO, I came up with a doozy, and she fell for it hook, line, and sinker, lol.  I went and picked it up last night, told her I traded some guy for doing work on his bike.  Good thing she never reads the arfcom boards, lol!

I got the GSG-5PK, but I'm afraid to shoot it, cuz everytime I pick it up and hold it by the hand guard, my thumb naturally rests right over the barrel, lol!  I need to fill out my forms so I can get my VFG and folding stock.  Should clear that up, lol.

Where did you find a 4.5" upper???
The shortest I can find is 11.5" through Spikes

I bought it used.  Someone else cut it down, had issues with it and then sold it to me.  I went through 4 or 5 kits (both CMMG and Spikes) until I found one with a chamber adapter that was tight enough to cycle normal ammo.  Without a supressor, It runs 100% on fed match and abt 95% on fed bulk pack.

I believe Spikes used to haved a 5.5" upper avail, but CMMG will have there's avail by EOM?

I really enjoy it and it's almost like a kids toy..
